I'm just not sure about all this. Thinking i might pickup the 820 or 8S on a 12 month contract and hopefully by that time some 4G prices will be a bit more affordable.

Just want to get onto WP8 now really.

With the prices and availability really messed up for the 920, I am on the edge of jumping to either the 820 or the HTC 8X for now and see what the next evolution is... It's definitely Windows 8 I want.

And why the 8S instead of the 8X? Better resolution, plsu, the 8S only have 512MB RAM.

To be honest, if you're looking at a lower end handset like the 8S and you have a WP7.5 device now you might as well wait for 7.8 and see what happens in a few months.

Good work Nokia, I should be using a 920 but instead I've just placed an order for a Note 2 as they've made this so much hard work. EE can get stuffed too. :)

This is just ridiculous how difficult Nokia have made it to get hold of their latest and greatest mobile. When Apple release an iphone its easy to get sim free through Apple. Why couldn't Nokia have done something similar and made this launch a great success rather than people looking to import from Europe or America just so they can get their hands on one. There seem to be so many obstacles in place that it appears they don't actually want people to buy them! I really want a cyan 920 sim free but I have just about lost faith as it is such a fiasco.

If anything they should have made certain colours exclusive to network operators and not the entire phone. Nokia cannot afford this to fail, and I think they have just about finished nailing up the coffin, turning what should have been a great launch into a muted wash out.

I wanted to start doing Windows app development, but the unavailability of the 920 and the now ridiculous pricing EE has done, I am not getting one.

Properly but-hurt over here, I might get one sim-free from ze germans at some point, but for now Nokia and EE can take a run and jump.

I cant imagine Microsoft are too happy with this. The entire premise of the changes to Windows 8 is based around PC/Phone/tablet having the same interface, same apps.

Now Nokia/EE have gone and made the flagship Win8 phone incredibly hard to get hold of for many, and just undesirable for many more. People are going to be less willing to spend on apps if they only work on 2 out of 3 devices, OK that's continuing the status quo, but win8 was supposed to change that.

Similar situation here, I want to do some app development but only if it is made easy for me to do so.

Getting a 920 = difficult.
Running the WP8 SDK = requires Windows 8 on your PC.

Not exactly easy is it? it's no wonder many of the top apps are built by Microsoft and Nokia.

That makes no sense. Apps won't only run on 2 out of three devices. What are you talking about.

Elop posted a picture of him in Russia yesterday in a Nokia store with some one getting a Yellow 920! RUSSIA of all places! Wouldn't surprise me if the store was in Yakutsk!

People can't get the Lumia 920, the flagship device that MS put its most backing behind. This *will* lead to people getting other phones and their aren't that many Win8 devices. You can see it in this thread. N4 or Note 2 seems to be the most common.

These wont run Windows 8 apps.

That doesn't translate what you originally said.
Uk is also a small market. It's very easy to get in say Germany.

There's 4 other wp8 you can get at the moment, with more coming in ~jan.

With nowhere near the prominence of the Lumia. To the point that anyone could be forgiven that only the Lumias are on Win8.

Yeah becuase were a booming market, oh wait its country's like India that have booming smartphone sectors. And they're not exactly rich.

Not for high end. Its the low end mobile phones which are doing well there, as well as places like Africa, so I heard anyway. They are now cheap enough to be available to the poor = boost to figures. Its actually one of the places Nokia is still doing well.

You sum up some of my own thoughts on the matter, I had planned to take advantage of the fact I work with Visual Studio and can easily make apps for it. I'm annoyed because I've been waiting to dump my Lumia 800 for like 6 months and the 920 was going to make it all worth the wait, little did I know...

On the bright side as far as I'm aware the Windows Phone emulator is pretty decent so not having a handset shouldn't be too much of a hindrance for you hopefully?

The UK is a huge, easy market to sell in. Have you never stopped to consider why we have such a competitive market or why the high street is infested with mobile shops?
