I had to turn off Dev Preview before it would appear as an update, I'll stick preview back on again once its done, its "Almost done..." at the minute.

I would have thought though that the Dev Preview would have given me something before now if an official was here?

Didn't know I had to turn off Preview for it to kick in.

I have been supplied a nokia 735 from work and I was wondering if there is any way to make it not a windows OS phone or i am stuck with this Block os?

It just seems to me like its missing another screen, like the old nokia icons menu. The blocks just annoys me to no end. Is there any way i can put something on to remove the blocks and replace it with something that looks better and has higher quality standard icons?

The amount of messing about required to change an OS, you're better off buying a Moto G and use it instead.

As for the "Block screens", that's the "metro" layout, you either love it or hate it. Icons are unless at notification on view compared to the tiles, but if it's not your thing, again, go similar on Android and mod away.

Use this as a starter:

Be more open minded, otherwise, best go with Android / iOS if your company allows.

So it is possible to put android on it?

Unfortunately it is the only phone that my work will supply. I have a blackberry 9720 and the new nano 4g sim won't fit in to it. So i am stuck with the phone. I don't understand why they couldn't just buy android phone.

Is there a way to change the default font, so that it is not that comic sans look a like font with no upper case letters?

Welcome to Windows Phone, we've all been through the *eugh* stage when you first get one.

But honestly, once you've set it up and most importantly made the tiles transparent and stuck a nice picture in the background, you'll never go back to icons again.

Personally I think MS nailed it with WP8 (once i's set up right).

Android generally looks like it was based on Windows 3.1.

Anything is possible, you just need to code from scratch as currently there isn't one. So the effort is not worth it, thus my statement to buy am Android.

I went from BB9700 to Windows 7.5 before it went into Windows 8.0 and now 8.1

I got used to it and with 8.1 being more and more customisable, you'll be glad you've entered at this stage, with Windows Phone 10 on its way too. Cortana and Glance (and OIS camera) alone is enough for me to warrant staying with WP, even on an 'old' but dead sturdy phone like the 920.

You can get adaptors for the Nano to fit in your BB if you want, but with worst apps and with BBM on WP OS anyway, why bother?

I have just installed the transparency tile app and trying to add a background as well. Everything seems so over convoluted though and requires so much effort to learn. Why not just have a setting that enables the transparent tiles and then have an option to set a background. Instead i have to spend 30 mins messing about trying to get the start menu screen thing to look less annoying.

I like the physical keyboard, i will try this phone but thanks for pointing out that i can get adapter, at least i have that option then.

Settings -> start+theme -> choose photo. done, simples.

If you don't know how to do something then just ask, you'll likely get a prompt response. If you just keep moaning about how it's not Android then you'll just annoy anyone who would be willing to help you.

Looks a lot better.

We've all done the same, out of the box only to find these horrendous multi-coloured tiles, but with a bit of setting up you'll end up really liking Windows Phone.

Don't forget to set up the Glance Screen and Double Tap to wake.

To save power, your screen goes on standby when you’re not using your phone actively. With Glance screen, you can easily check the time even when your screen times out.

Glance is not supported by all phones. For availability, go to www.microsoft.com.

On the start screen, swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap ALL SETTINGS > Glance screen.
Switch Glance screen to always on.

Tip: It's easy to wake up your phone even when the power key is not easily accessible, for example, while your phone is cradled in a car holder. Simply double-tap the screen.

Lumia 735 does not support the glance screen it appears. Just looked it up.

What is the best browser for windows phone. I tried IE and the address bar is at the bottom and not movable. I tried opera but it does not resume like the ie browser and always loses the place when minimizing the app. Any of the others worth trying?

Blimey, some of the marketing blurb says it does, but it doesn't!

Guess you're stuck with just the Double Tap the screen to wake (set in Touch) which it does support.

Pity it doesn't support Glance, that's one of the best features.
