I do have GSAM installed and it tells me the same as the standard battery consumption breakdown on Android. Can't get wakelock detector to work without root but I don't think there is any problem with wakelocks as it generally consumes very little battery overnight, like 2-4%. From reading around elsewhere like xda it seems a lot of people have devices that have same poor battery life as mine but nobody really knows why? I'm going to exchange mine once the store I bought it in gets more stock so we'll see after that. To be honest though I can actually live with the battery life as is, it will get me through a full day with fairly heavy usage. It's just when people are saying they are getting 5+ hours screen on time I wonder whether there is something wrong with my handset?

It might not be anything wrong with your handset still.
Remember, not everyone has the same configuration or is in the same area as you on the same network. If you're in a weak 4G area then locking on to 2 bars 4G will consume more battery than locking on to 4 bars3G. Observe your Android battery meter summary screen showing the bars at the bottom, if your mobile network signal bar isn't mostly green then your radio is working hard and that's going to consume a lot of battery. Likewise if you're always on WiFi and the WiFi reception is 2~ bars only but the connection rate is Wireless-N speed then again you're going to be consuming more battery than someone connected at 4bars at Wireless-N speeds as the wireless radio is not working so hard to maintain a strong signal.
Those two scenarios alone can be the biggest factor in battery performance vs screen on time.
A strong average signal would be anywhere from say -69dB to -80dB. if your signal is hovering in the -90 or beyond range then your reception is the problem.

Yeah good point. Now that I think of it I was never even bothered with screen on time with any of my previous phones. I had an LG G2 and it lasted me 2 days no problem, never looked at what the sot was though?? It seems to be the standard by which a lot of people measure battery performance these days while perhaps not taking into account other factors.
Got mine yesterday, moved form a note 2 also. the only awkward thing is getting used to pressing the left button and holding it for a second to get the menu features, have flicked to recent apps soooo many times. Love the feel of the 4 too, I have a genuine samsung cover coming as the screen on my 2 is still mint having used the fold over samsung cover on it.Got mine on saturday eventually and am loving it so far.
Went for whitewhich I actually like..at the moment. They did say that I could exchange for a black one in the 14 day period too, so will see how I get one.
Have not been using it as have been waiting for my number port to happen, which should be today, so will be able to see how the battery life is in normal use, but in the light use it has had since saturday is unbelievable.
Am alos very impressed with the feel of the phone too. Feels very nice in hand and also not as heavy as the Note 2 that it is replacing.

I gotta say that the pen writes on the screen so brilliantly.
I scrawled allover my calendar last night with upcoming events and it was just like using a biro. Brilliant feature I can see myself using more regular.
It writes very naturally. The recognition is great too.

This be the main reason why I want the Note. As big as it is, I think this very reason justifies my purchase as it'll be great for my line of work (mech engineering). Still yet to see the device first person though but either way I'm after one asap.

The size isnt really as much of an issue as I expected. I had a Galaxy s3 before it.
My friend had a Note 2 and 3 and I used to think it seemed big, however it seems with the current trend the size doesn't stand out so much. I have passed my phone around friends at work showing them youtube videos etc and none of them have actually said its too big, which surprised me.
Ive soon gotten used to it.
Definitely recommend it. I dont think Id like a smaller screen if I moved back.

Just dropped my Note 4 in the bath!
I was reaching over it and it slipped out my hand. Absolute nightmare. I screamed the house down and whipped it back out within a second.
Took the cover off and battery out. screen was flickering slightly. Used a hairdryer on it, I guess I best stick it in some rice and pray.
Within an hour of recommending it and saying its not too big I lose grip of it! hahaha

Im rather angry with myself here. I bought the phone at CPW and I signed up for "geek squad" insurance because I was gonna cancel it within a month and it would cover me until I added phone to bank insurance.
Looks like I might have to use them afterall.
Inside the phone there is now a little red dot on the moisture indicator. Cant believe I was so clumsy. Will go into CPW tomorrow.
I think most of the water got inside the S-pen hole as the Headphone and power point were sealed up. Also some in the speakers I guess.
Ill try and blag a replacement.
