*****The OFFICIAL OCUK 2013/2014 Fantasy Football League*****

I've had 2 horrendous weeks :(.

I've had 2 horrendous months !!

Every week I have had at least 3-4 injured players. The last 2 weeks we've had rested players, off the bench players and I've done awful.

Now I have no idea if Suarez & Negredo will play again like last week, so undecided on captain choice too.

Arsenal in trouble, no Ramsey, Gibbs, Ozil or Giroud and Walcott looking doubtful now! Podolski is a good punt.

Rooney also having late fitness test. Looks like Suarez is the obvious captain choice this GW.

As for city players, I'm waiting last minute tomorrow whether to transfer dzeko out or not. The early kick off helps there ;)

^£7.4m is a kinda 'inefficient' price to sell a player you bought for £5.9m, since you'd still receive £6.6m if their price dropped to £7.3m. Of course, if the player you are bringing in is rising then it makes sense to beat the rise.

I think I'll just bench Ramsey for now instead of selling him, as he's expect back the game after next anyway, so he should only miss this one I hope.

Poldoski or Welbeck? Can't make my mind up.

Which did you go for? Out the two I would have took the punt on podo, but come to think of it, Welbeck is a good choice too.

My punt was on remy instead. Hope I don't regret dropping dzeko.

I made 5 transfers this week with the wildcard in order to sort out my injury crisis. Feel like i now have a weaker squad, but based on points so far and with the money i have, they should keep me going before i can buy back people like Ramsey etc.

I wouldn't make buying Ramsey back a priority. I think his second half of the season won't be nearly half as good as his first.

Anyone looking to take the early WC in light of making some money with those players set to price increase? Tempted to overhaul my squad right now with a view to fitting Aguero back in come his return.

Was tempted due to the long gameweek (more potential for exploiting the market) but I'm saving my WC as I'm fairly happy with my team, and in case any FA Cup replays create some blank/double gameweeks.

Well I had a good Christmas in the FF. Up to 16th in the OcUK league and top of the OcUK Head-to-Head league :).
Glad I dropped Ozil (just before he got injured) and put Walcott in.

Ozil has been a bit of a disappointment for FF managers. Walcott is a definite shout. All FF managers should be looking to these core players at least

Coleman
Sagna or kolscieny or mert

Walcott
Hazard
Silva or yaya

Aguero + Suarez

If you ain't got them you ain't likely to be winning :p

Ozil shouldn't be that much of a disappointment considering he missed the first 3 gameweeks and yet is still the 4th highest ranked midfielder.

Taking the Ramsey freakage to one side, the only players who have bettered him are premium players themselves in Hazard and Toure.

He was over 10mil. His points to price rate is poor compared to many other cheaper mids.

I disagree, he's played 15 gameweeks and scored 95 points which means he averages over 6.3pts per week played so on average he cost maybe around £1.6m per point per week. That certainly isn't poor IMO. Even if you count it as 17 gameweeks (i.e. you held him after he got injured) I'd say it's probably above average.

Comparing with cheaper mids (ignoring Rambo as I already stated), the only ones who can compete with that really are Lallana (92pts over 20 weeks but cost as little as £6m to start with), Wittingham, Mutch... maybe Cabaye. And to be fair there comes a point where you need to spend some of that cash rather than having a team full of bargain players simply because of their value, and cash in the bank (especially once you factor the captaincy in).

Of course you've got Hazard/Toure leading the way who were only slightly cheaper, but essentially I'd say there are only a few and certainly not many midfielders that have a better points to price ratio than Ozil when you consider he didn't exist as an FPL player during the first three GW (obviously needs to be a threshold i.e. players that play a decent number of games rather than being passengers - a £5m player who plays 2 weeks out of 20 and scored 10pts is not really a fair comparison).

I didn't buy him as I thought he was overpriced / never really had a suitable opportunity, but I've actually been pleasantly surprised by his returns rather than disappointed.

Ozil points per million (PPM) is 0.5, his points per million per game (PPMPG) is 0.26. There are dozens of players above that with a better ratio, with Mutch, Huddlestone and Parker being the top 3 with 5.2, 4.7 and 4.6 PPM respectively.

For comparison are similarly priced mids,

Walcott 3.5 PPM and 1.18 PPMPG.
Hazard 2.8 PPM and 0.93 PPMPG
Yaya 1.9 PPM and 0.47 PPMPG

This means Ozil provides poor value in respect of other premium players. What's more, all that cash you spend on Ozil could be spent on a premium striker instead where you are more likely to earn more and create more value.

What time period are those numbers based on? How are they calculated? I can't fathom how Walcott can be well in excess of 5x as productive as Ozil. Is there some sort of exponential or base value adjustment used in that formula?

Ozil cost £10.5m, scoring 95pts from 15 appearances / 17 gameweeks.
Walcott cost £9.5m, scoring 72pts from 13 appearances / 20 gameweeks

Ozil has 95 points. If his points per million was 0.5, he'd cost £190m? Do you have to sum his average price every gameweek or something? If so how on earth can Walcott be 3.5PPM, with only 72pts his cumulative value would have to be only just over £20m, whereas it's actually gonna be like £120m or summat for weeks he played or £185m ish during his time in the game.

...aha! Google is my friend. The numbers you've quoted only apply to the past 4 game weeks. Which may be of use for people looking to buy players now in terms of assessing recent form, but is a fundamentally flawed way of assessing performance over the whole season (not that my crude calculations are perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but in broad terms Ozil has done OK in terms of PPMPG since he joined the game). Heck, given he's missed the last two games it's hardly surprising. Aguero has 0 PPM over the past 4 gameweeks, that doesn't mean he's been a disappointment to FF managers this season overall :)
