*** The Official OcUK Beers Of The World Competition ***

I'm assuming the answer is no, but if Weatherspoons or similar has an American Craft beer based on a Californian brewery, but it's brewed under license in the UK, then it wouldn't count?

I think if it's brewed under license then it's OK. We've had this thing before. For example, Budweiser isn't brewed in America, but it would still count as an American beer. Obviously an American style wouldn't, but if Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale was brewed under license by Fullers then I think it would be OK.

Consider a Scotland round, you may want to enter Brewdog's 77 Lager. Well, a lot of that was (may still be) brewed in London but I think everyone would still allow it to be a Scottish entry.

I like most of the suggestions Maccapacca, but my concern is that if things get too specific it can get harder for people to join in without people having to spend a fair amount at specialist mail order beer shops. I'm not complaining and it's great that you're taking this on, but is it something we want to be where everyone can participate, or where it excludes people who might not want to spend £5-6 with shipping for a beer they might not enjoy. Basically remember Rule Z.

As for suggestions;
E - Export. Yeah, not sure about this one myself to be perfectly honest.
E - Eire. Irish beer.
G - Gruit - A spiced beer, although I'd suggest a hopped beer flavoured with spices would be enough.
L - Lager. There are some good ones. They just might not be sold in cans at your corner shop.
O - Octoberfest. A german beer (any german beer)
P - Perry, a fermented pear drink
R - Real Ale - A real ale pint in a pub, or a bottle labled as "Real Ale"
S - Strong - A beer over 6% ABV
W - Welsh
W - Wood - Beer aged in wooden barrels
