I'd say the Saturn V is a better investment. It's sold out twice in 24hours.
I have 3 spare copies so far

Don't think I have it In me to buy two of these maybe when it gets to the end of the production line I'll think about it

You bought 4 of the Saturn V's? And so far? You plan to buy more? No wonder it sells out so quickly because of hoarders like you.

Sadly I think it can also be a bit of an addiction. I have three Mercedes Acros, only built one, I have purchased 3 lego creator mini cars, quite hard to find now. I was planning to make them into the cars from the Italian Job, but I've actually not built one of them yet.

Not only that, if I was to build all my legos, I'd not have any room in my house for them all, same with my model car collection. Sometimes, model collecting is more about collecting them building. And also , Lego is the one toy that never seems to lose its value. So investors do tend to buy more then one, something I feel lego knows about, and does try to restrict purchases. Never works though.

And sometimes the must have sets, that I missed and can't afford, I have been naughty and got Lepin sets.

I enjoy the building process more than displaying the models afterwards (and like you, I don't really have the room to display even the small set of models I have)... so I just build them, have them sitting around to admire for a few days, then break them back down and stick them back in their boxes in the loft... Sort of treating them a bit like awesome 3d puzzles I suppose?

I keep on thinking about doing this (when the Ideas mech came out, when Wall-E came out, when the Saturn V came out) but I keep reminding myself that at the end of the day I am depriving a child of a toy. When I was in the queue for the Saturn V on release day in London, there were a few AFOLs, but most I spoke to were parents buying for their kids.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but this profiteering we see in Lego, stuff like the NES and SNES mini should stop. I was surprised when speaking to the staff at the Lego store that they don't limit the number of copies people can buy.

I enjoy the building process as well, I do like to see how Lego tackle or use existing bricks, elements to create solutions, always interesting to see small pieces build into something so amazing. I have had to break up many lego models and store them in the loft, as they do take a lot of room up. But just means I can rebuild them later when I feel like it or get bored of movies or video games. Joys of being single right now.. lol

Lego do tend to try and limit orders online at the moment for some sets. I do agree, it is a kids toy in the end, but so many adults enjoy lego, and sadly can't stop investors. And anyhow, the UCS sets aren't really kids toys, and those are the ones that attract the bigger investors. They even put 16+ on the box. My little girl still enjoys playing with her duplo sets, aged 2 - 5 and she is now 6. I don't think Lego has age restrictions, just affordability.

I completely agree... it's not just because it's children or whatever; there are plenty of people who would love to have a Saturn V purely to enjoy building it and the idea that some won't be able to whilst multiple duplicate sealed copies of the model sit in someone's loft for years is a sad thought (despite there ultimately being nothing technically wrong with it)...

For me I also think about how I'd feel selling it later - if it's to another fat-cat collector who is "investing" or whatever then fine, but the idea of someone who missed out initially being completely gouged by a massive price to get hold of the set just doesn't sit right with me...

(Interestingly in the pre-order chaos with the SNES mini it looked like I might have accidentally gotten 2 instead of one... it turned out not to be the case but I think if I had gotten a second one I'd have hoped I could find a friend who wanted to buy it off me for the RRP)

I've had to resort to Lepin , due to crazy prices for kits I have missed from my collection due to at the time when Lego issued a UCS set or flagship model and I didn't have the funds, I have a child and being a single parent its not always possible for me to buy the latest kits, and I've missed a few in the past... You go searching for them, and you find some horrendous prices, which TBH private sellers won't pass that back to Lego, Lego already sold the sets to speculators. So Lepin has come to the rescue to fill in gaps for UCS as I have a large glass display cabinet for the larger flagships and UCS and recycle what I display

I had to buy a UCS X Wing from Lepin , as prices went past £300 + for a kit what was only released a few years back. Got mine from Lepin for £48. Had to buy better display plate sticker of ebay for £2.50.

The prices for some UCS Lego is crazy once Lego retire the set... I'll never sell my UCS star destroyer. Even back when I got it, I thought, expensive. Prices now are horrendous.

The Saturn V is actually a nice model, I haven't got one myself. Guess I should look for one, otherwise that'll be another I miss out on.

Saturn V is an interesting build, seeing how they arrange various panels to connect to the cores, i enjoyed it.
We missed the NES when launched and therfore forever which is a shame as my wife really wanted to play it.
It would have got lots of use.

I didn't get a tower of orcthanc where it was out, it went end of line while I was out of the country, damn shame, i really wanted one, and didn't realise it would have been as pressing.

Not that anyone has to justify their actions, but I don't really buy that explanation. Sure buying to build can be an addiction, and even buying and keeping them in the box as a collection, but buying multiples of the same things, I can't see any reason behind that besides buying as an investment.

Fair enough. I haven't actually sold a single Lego set , I planned to build the Mercedes B model and display along side the A model, but never did due to space , and the third, it was cheap and impluse at Argos during a sale.... The minis however was purchased for an intended purpose, but never did as I found out via bricklink etc it was going to be quite expensive to change the parts to make three different colour minis ...

I haven't purchased them to sell later on at inflated costs, I just liked them. The Mercedes Acros is one of my favorites along with the Claas tractor, 2015/16 were great years for Technic. I did stop myself buying another Claas Tractor.

Majority of sets don't sell out. And seems like it's not always obvious which sets gain massively in value.

I'll be selling my basic millenium falcon next week probably no point having two

Oh I missed the bit about the purpose of the minis, that was a great idea. :)
Shame it worked out too expensive.

Italian Job?

I just enjoy building legos, have done since I was a small boy, and I doubt I'll stop.
Italian Job?

Yep.... It was my grand plan when the Mini Creator kit was announced. It was in the end cheaper to buy three tamiya mini kits of ebay and use paints, which I started and erm never finished... I do have these project ideas. shame I never finish half of them.

Italian Job?
Presumably this :) -

I should have completed that Italian Job project now lol Loved that movie and the car sequences ...

In other news sad to hear 1400 facing the axe after Lego Group announce losses. Shame for those losing their jobs.
