***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

I do have plenty loaded up on there ;)

I haven’t added my 2021 sets though, that said most of the stuff in my lego ‘wish list’ is ‘hard to find’ or ‘exclusive’ meaning no or rarely discounted at a single retailer not listed on there like Smyths or John Lewis.

I may have just nabbed the Empire State Building as it was on Amazon.de for just over £60 :o

This is such a dangerous habit :(
Waiting for some bargains to come up in the January, but no dice..

Ooh nice, what's the score with amazon and import tax/vat now? Does the amazon checkout now resemble a US checkout showing vat already paid?

Finished the VW Beetle last night. Great build. Love the little details.

It even has a very similar licence plate to the Mustang as it was the same designer. Last digit is 1 and on the Mustang it's 2.

There shouldn’t be any import tax and VAT is listed as been paid, I had an email to that effect.

There is new vat rules anyway, VAT has to be paid at point of sale on small imports. That’s why there have been loads of press about small companies no longer selling to the U.K. until they can comply with the new rules (or just not at all).

What about customs?

Recently bought something from Poland and the shop now has a 135gbp limit.

Which I believe is the point customs kicks in

I have enjoyed building the 1989 Batwing with my son over the last few days. Completing the set now with the 1989 Batmobile we did last Christmas.
I would say the Batmobile was more enjoyable to build as it has front wheel steering and the pop-up machine guns when you twist the rear flame exhaust, which adds to the technicality.

Nice. Decided to go for the bat mobile. As its older.
Hope. It's a good build!

The cars are the most fun to build.

I have all 3 of the big ones.
Porsche is may favourite, it just looks exciting.
Bugatti, prefer the build of this, but the look is a bit too Conservative
Sian (not built).. I'm concerned I'll hate it due to colour shift

The value of my still boxed porsche is more than the GFs real car is worth! That set has really risen in value

There shouldn’t be any customs duties to pay from the EU but there is something that changes on VAT. Have a look on gov.uk, I think marketplaces are also different again from what I remember.

Just Google ‘new vat import rules’ or something like that. You shouldn’t have an issue from somewhere like Amazon either way.

Just thought I'd post a little update. My daughter is finally starting to like building lego:D. She's quite into the lego friends, which I guess is who it's aiming at. She's just built the jungle rescue one pretty much on her own and we've got her a bigger set to go onto next. I'm pushing her for hard mode but she's single bagging it:p.

Decided to get the fossils set while it's still available.
Prices on ebay are high.
And limit on orders from lego (back order) is 2.

Probably stock shortages but possible retirement imminent didn't want to miss out

I really wanted to pick up the VW Camper van before it was retired. Sadly missed out.

However my local store still had a handful on Christmas eve before they closed. I'm hoping that when the store is allowed to open they still have them.

I'll be there on their opening day to check. That and the Flintstones set were still in store.

Question for those of you who've built the Defender. What's the point of the take-off from the steering which ends up running vertically behind the driver's seat? It seems odd to put it somewhere that's less accessible than the steering wheel itself.

Am I missing something here?

From memory that looks like the snorkel exhaust pipe on the model but is a working steering cog on the roof so that you can drive it around the floor.

How do you guys store your Lego? I have so much to build but I am putting it off because I have no room to store it, building it is no problem but I am thinking then what? Where is it going to go...

Current list to build:
  • Saturn V
  • Ghostbusters Ecto-1
  • Porsche 911 GT3

I used to build and then take apart to put back in boxes as not keen on it being displayed around the house although I got fed up with that so its now displayed on shelves and wall up in the loft; added bonus of it being up there is it doesn't collect dust.

Currently trying to source a Tie Fighter Pilot Helmet kit for retail but seems to be out of stock everywhere. Lego showing as out of stock and whilst they accept back order on some, they don’t on this one. Hoping it’s not discontinued. Got the Stormtrooper for Christmas and would like to pair it up. Less bothered by Boba Fett but may try for one of those too so I have the 3.

anyone know anything about likely retirement date for the helmets? I believe new ones due this year so are they likely to stop them?

I don’t think it’s retired, it only launched last year. It’s been in short supply since it was launched though and spent a long time out of stock.

Check all the usuals like Argos, Smyths etc.
