** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

Thanks. Only downside is no more media keys, which i used to use... But this feels like a miltary grade Keyboard!

Can be hard to see the keys at night but i dont really look at the keys when i am typing, except WASD when i am gaming and they are now bright blue. Be cool for FPS if i can find a green key or get a key with a grenade on it for the G key...

go to WASD, you get custom printed keys:D bit pricey but it would look pretty cool.

Ok here you go (Sorry for pics, phone has rubbish camera, its a lot nicer in the flesh!!)

The LEDs are blue on this model and the front Filco logo black.

Excellent looking keyboard, I'm guessing the LEDs are referring to the lock leds? Also may be a stupid question but are the letters readable if you quickly glance down? I use some odd characters when working so need to quickly glance for them, I'm guessing yes but it's worth double checking :).

Again, looks really good!

Does anyone know if the Steelseries 7G is discontinued? I can't find it anywhere.

Edit: Opted for Tt Meka G1.

Yes thats right, the lock LEDs is what i mean. Just worth mentioning as on some other models they are Red etc.

Yeah when you glance down you can see the lettering quite well and the keys have all the usual symbols printed on them as with any other KB, so its not a problem. The pics i took where from standing up, so quite a high angle, when you are sat down they are very easy to see.

Was using a piece of equipment at work today and noticed a clicky keyboard. Grabbed a screw driver and carefully lifted a key cap off this old style keyboard. White alps.

*sigh* Nice mechanical keyboard wasted. It has a track pad on it though.

Well I've read all 29 pages of this thread now and really enjoyed it!

Unfortunately it's also forced me into dropping £120 on a Filco Majestouch-2 with blue switches - I code all day so felt this was the right choice. Used an IBM mech keyboard donkeys years ago and remember loving it - hope this one will be as good.

I'm getting to the stage where I need a new keyboard and really thinking hard about spending that much on a keyboard. Also do quite a bit of coding so hoping that I'll get my moneys worth if I do go for a filco.

Let me know what you think when you get it, really close to pushing the buy button myself :(.

About to pull the trigger on the Majestouch 2, was wondering if there any issues with the letters fading making the extra money for the ninja worthwhile?

The letters will fade on them yes. I've seen many people talk about this on geekhack. But most of them have loads of different keysets lying about anyway.

So I've had a Filco Majestouch-2 for a few months now and today it fell about 3-4 inches onto a wooden floor and now it's dead :(

Thought these things were supposed to be tough! But anyway, does anyone know what Filco's returns policy is like, will I have to pay for a repair under warranty? Its not like I chucked the thing at the wall or anything!

I'm assuming you got it from keyboardco? I say give them a quick email, as returning a board to Japan might be slightly costly as I'm 90% sure that because the majority of the boards are imported from Japan their only repair centers are there, failing that - you could always post on Geekhack or Deskthority regarding what happened, as those guys take keyboards apart and repair them for fun. It could just be a case of the cable which connects the USB to the board has come loose or something.

Currently thinking of getting a new keyboard and I was looking at a G19 for all of the macro buttons, the small screen(not sure i would get a lot of use with it) and also just the quality of Logitech products, until I noticed this thread. I am now very tempted by a mechanical keyboard and I am currently looking at the Qpad MK-85 or the Corsair Vengeance K90.

Not overly keen on the silver on the K90 but I could get over that, what does concern me a little is the keyboard layout. Going from the pictures on the store page, it seems to be a US layout with a small return key as well as the backslash in the wrong place! Does anyone know if it will be a standard UK/Irish layout?

The MK-85, much prefer the look, bar the logo plastered all over it. Although again, going by the pictures, it looks like the layout will annoy me slightly.

Can anyone recommend one or the other, or even a third to make things even more difficult for me?

Also, never having bought a peripheral from either of the above, can anyone comment on the general build quality?

Thanks for the input,

Backlight is not needed but would be nice just on the looks side of things. Currently my screen brightness lights up my keyboard so I can live without.

Looked into the switches earlier and without being able to try all of them out, its kind of guesswork. Written off black as its the highest and closest to a standard keyboard. Blue and Brown, I'm not so sure about the clicking so I have been looking for Red ones. I figure with enough use I will get used to not bottoming out and the lightness of the keys sounds nice.

Looked at Filco, but cant seem to find them with a red switch. Will take a look at steelseries to see if I can find one I like.

While I do game a huge amount across pretty much all types of games, I also do a large amount of programming, so that's what is swaying me towards reds. Just hoping I don't find them too light for some games.

Anyone know about the keyboard layout if I order a K90 or MK-85 from here? Will it be UK or are the pictures on the store pages accurate?

I've always liked the look of the cherry blue DAS keyboards. If it had backlit keys it'd be perfect for me. I like the gloss surround but it's not everyone's taste. I believe these keyboards are on a par with filco for build quality.
