**** The Official OnePlus 3 Thread ****

I had been surprised by the massive size of the icons on the OP launcher until I realised the display was 1080p (I'd forgotten about that!) and not a 1440p jobby. The missus won't understand any of that anyway!

It's to do with the DPI setting not PPI.

Default DPI is 480 IIRC. Some of us have lowered it to 400 to make everything look much smaller and crisper. It can be done without root.

I dropped the DPI from 480 to 400. Feels far less chunky now!

Easy as pie

What's battery life like on the OP3? I've heard reports of a singles day's usage but no more. I've become used to my Z3 giving me 2 days no problem - am I going to see a big difference between them?

I regularly have 3+ days idle time and 4+ hours screen time, but I obviously don't use it a lot.

I've only had mine a few days at home tinkering about so I can't comment. I've come from a Z3 too and I hope it's as good as that for battery life, will find out this weekend when I'm back at work.

Well that sounds promising...

Would like to hear how you get on, I'm considering purchasing this week. :)

I'm also considering purchasing this or holding out for the next Nexus. I won't pay £400+ for a phone anymore and I'm guessing the new Nexus phones will be at least this much.

Coming from a Moto X (2014), more than anything, I want decent battery life. With no more than 3hrs SOT, my Moto X struggles to get through a day. The battery is also slowly dying and cuts out completely at circa 15%.

Do I dive in now or wait to see what Google announce (which will no doubt be end of September)?

Depends how patient you are.
We don't know what the specs will be any any new announcements. But if you do buy the OP3 now you can always flog it in a month and recoup most of your money, if you like the sound of the new Nexus/Google phone.

I highly doubt the Pixel XL (if thats what it is going to be called) will be sub £400.

Which tempered glass screen protectors do folks here use? Is the one on the OnePlus site any good, or are there better alternatives at the same price?

Recently bought a OnePlus3 for the wife who returns from holiday today. Need to set her up with a SIM asap though. Also purchased the glass protector from OnePlus themselves but haven't had the time to install it due to work reasons. There are no decent ones from other manufacturers at all yet.

I've heard some small cons about the OnePlus protector though. It is the best one but you stupidly lose about a millimetre from the bezels, which makes scrollbars a bit hard to see. I'll try it tonight hopefully and update this post.

One quick question for you guys. I am fully charging the wifes OnePlus3 from 8% as I let it run down during the week since she wasn't home to use it. Does the back get fairly warm during dashcharge for you all? CPU-Z reports 42c on thermals. A colleague of mine with the same device says his is cool to the touch during charging.

Yeah, I had a read about this last night, they do 2 protectors, a slightly rounded one that goes right up to the edge, but its an extra £5. This one also has problems though in that you can't see text that goes right up to the edge of the screen, but this is very rarely a problem. - https://oneplus.net/uk/oneplus-3-curved-tempered-glass-screen-protector

I wish I could go and see one of these before ordering, one of the downsides to the OP3 I guess.

First night of work, we don't have wireless there and I'm running a dual sim so I'm not sure if that has an impact on the battery (EE/GiffGaff). Unplugged from charger at 17:00 to go to work, got home this morning and went to bed at 7am with 41% of battery left with approx. 3 hours of screen on time.

My type of usage at work is constantly checking emails/whatsapp/chrome browser/Facebook/eBay mucking about with camera etc etc. So the screen is only on for around 3-5 mins at a time, but in and out of the pocket a lot!

I ordered the OnePlus tempered screen protector and to be honest the plastic one that came ready installed looked better. Due to the nature of the tempered glass the edges have slight lift and it's quite thick too, but I have it in the clear Spigen case which has a raised lip so it's not noticeable to the touch.

You can see around the edges where it's not sitting because of the slight curve of the screen.

The other tempered protector is out of stock, i'll be ordering it as soon as they have them back in.

So far very impressed with it. Especially the dash charging!

I was all set to hit "buy" on this phone but the biggest plus for me is that it is like a Nexus, but cheaper. Rumours on the Oneplus forums are that they will merge HydrogenOS and OxygenOS so is it likely to lose it's Nexus-like skin? I'm not convinced I want a phone with a MIUI skin.
I know you can root / install Roms etc but I've wasted so much time with those in the past that I just want a phone that works out of the box, is cheap and as close to pure Android as possible.

Bit the bullet and bought this last night. Estimated delivery on the 15th... 9 whole days!

It does seem like a long time I know, but most folk (including me) do appear to have received their phones a few days before the quoted date.

As soon as it is dispatched you will be able to track its progress across Europe, which is always good fun! ;)

Good Luck! :)

Really want this phone but holding out while my one plus one is still perfect.

Might wait to see what the price drops are early next year in the run up to op4

Transferred my missus iPhone 4 WhatsApp databases over to the OnePlus3 last night and everything went according to plan. About 12k of messages, 5k of media transferred perfectly. Man, these 3mb 'Good morning' animated lame videos need to be banned from the service - users spread them around too much, especially old folk. It then bloats out the phone massively.

So far the OnePlus3 is very impressive in use. It feels a bit more fluid in use than my 6P, charging is definitely faster. I haven't put on the OnePlus tempered glass protector yet - going to ask for a refund this weekend as I am not impressed by initial reviews.
