**** The Official OnePlus 5 Thread ****

I don't think it's a significant enough update over the 3T so I think I'll just wait for the OP6. From their interview with The Verge it seems they will certainly go for extended display after the OP5, could be when they add IP68 too.
Google has a real opportunity there, if they price close enough to the OP5, the Pixel 2 could get a few more customers.

no chance pixel 2 comes in under it's current numbers - Pixel2 will be £650 at least.

Whilst this is true, even Google make efforts to add new features to each revision, and OEMs build on top of that with their UX. OnePlus is another such OEM, with their own tweaks and bits thrown in which is perfectly fine, but nothing seems to have changed since the last generation of OP phones in this area. It doesn't feel like you're getting anything extra for the extra money being spent. This is mostly a smaller nitpick I guess, as anyone who is familiar with Android will be immediately customising with third party launchers and apps anyway and making it better than stock.

Nobody "needs" it, but for the money, and it being a flagship, it's kind of expected/desirable. It also means the screen is brighter in stronger lighting due to the requirement for the HDR specification. Netflix, Amazon and others are now starting to support HDR for mobile devices as well, and if you've watched any HDR content on a mobile display next to a phone without HDR, you'll know how much of an improvement it is, especially on a nice big AMOLED panel.

This could be true, but he had an S8 as a "daily driver", which leads me to believe he was perfectly fine with it.

Plenty of comparisons on phones that have resolutions options show it makes marginal difference going from 1080P to 1440P in terms of battery life. There is a difference, but it's too small to worry about. Visually images and videos look similar, but text does ever so slightly appear sharper at higher resolutions.

LG G6, also a QHD+ display, also HDR, also very sleek and professional looking. The new iPhone will also be an edge to edge display, and lots of Asian market flagships now have them too. 2017 seems to be the year fat bezels get the chop.

Pretty much sums it up. It's not £500 special vs the 3T. And considering the S8 can be bought for similar money now... You get the idea.

Myself personally I prefer minimal OS stuff, Infact most phones OS' nowadays have the basics down, I'd rather just have basics rather than a phone thats bloated with stuff I'm never going to use.

Don't get me wrong the S8 is a very good phone, But it has its downsides too (glass all round ugh), Most reviewers have the latest & greatest as their "daily driver" so thats pretty much moot to me. Near enough every phone going now has one feature or another missing.

You are forgetting this phone has just come out, Samsung/Apple/Pixel phones have been out for a while & even on release you'd be hard pressed to find one of those under £650. Don't get me wrong I prefer 1440p over 1080p especially true if you use some kind of cardboard/VR set.

LG's G6 phone looks nice but the fact is they gimped certain markets, No Quad-Dac only found in asia. America don't get the wireless charging, LCD screen, Stupid curves that make no sense whatsoever.

See Kona's post for some of the OP5 specs & some counter points.

LG fixed the G6 spec fragmentation with the G6 Plus. Granted it costs a bit more, but at least they saw some sense eventually.

Benchmarks....meh, battery will last me a full day most of the time, dash charge is better than Samsung's fast charge (old QC2 standard) by a mile when the phone is in use (handy in the car) and better/faster in general, never had IPX on any of my previous phones so not fussed with that, no sd slot i'll give you that but 128 vs 64GB of fast storage and dual sim which is always handy.

Advanced features? Samsung can't even get the basics right. That FPS location is a joke, single camera albeit a good one, 4GB ram, runs on old software and personally I prefer a flat screen to curved.

Stock android over anything, enough RAM that you never need to think about apps getting kicked from memory, a stock ROM build that has custom rom like custom features, class leading FPS, dual cams, runs the latest version of Android. Metal back vs glass, much less of a fingerprint mess and more durable. There's no other phone available that ticks all the boxes that the OP5 does. I'm just happy there's plenty of choice out there for everyone, and the S8 is a great phone with a lovely design no doubt, but it's beauty isn't enough to win me over. A phone for me is a tool first and foremost and the OP5 fits my bill better.

Really? Nitpicking over HDR. Yet the S8 doesn't even get FPS right, has 4GB RAM and runs an old build of Android.

G6 is LCD, S8 is curved. Neither is perfect. I'd rather have a 16:9 flat OLED.

The OP5 will be OP's best selling phone to date. There's no shortage of buyers.

You mention old software a lot, yet the OP5 isn't running 7.1.2, therefore it's also running "old" software. Will it get Android O? I'd hazard to guess that around the time it does, it will also be out on the S8/G6 etc. Hell I bet LG and Sony get Android O updates out before anyone else.

As for HDR, I didn't just mention the screen pluses for HDR alone, HDR means the screen is brighter as it has to comply with the requirements for it to be certified for HDR. The byproduct of this is greater usability in brighter conditions outdoors.

Whilst you remark about the 4GB RAM on the S8, I can remark about the limited storage capacity on the OP5, we could rally for days here! Truth be told, the 4GB RAM is utilised extremely well on the S8 anyway as countless youtube videos have shown. Apps and games resume from their previous position time after time.

Every OP phone has nearly been their best selling phone, but that phase is short, and better phones always steal away interest. It's as people have already mentioned, the OP5 is a bit too bland. Yes it's an upgrade over the 3T in some respects (camera, battery, design...), but it's still a design that's quickly fading into last gen territory. Phones like the Essential will be bringing unique design and features that seem to be more appealing.

The G6 display may also be LCD only, but it's a very very good LCD display, and because it supports HDR standard, it has to adhere to certain white and black levels. It's not as vibrant as AMOLED, but it's certainly very good. The OP5 still uses an old generation AMOLED panel.

This is a phone that should be up to £100 cheaper at launch. At that price point it would be a great phone for the price. But this is par for the course with "flagships" these days I suppose.

Same here..I rang CS and they said it will be despatched within 24-48 hours.

Don't think it will arrive by Friday then.... :(

that's poor - o2 website is still saying I can click and collect today so I'll be very unhappy if my order from yesterday isn't able to be picked up today.

Turns out they aren't stocking the phones at the o2 shop - they are all ordered and delivered via courier to the shop on an individual basis!!!! If I knew that, I would have just got it delivered to my house!! I thought it would be better to go and pick up in shop but instead I need to wait for the courier to deliver it to the shop, then go and pick up.

No quite the same as "click and collect" - more like click, wait for delivery and then collect.

Click and collect to me, means it's in stock for up lift!!

My order has change from processing to dispatched now. Estimated delivery date of tomorrow. But I've not had a dispatch email yet.

Also, there's a lot of reports of orders being delivered but the page not updating so there's still hope!

E: I saw this on Reddit:
For those whose packages come through DHL, go to this link:

http://www.dhl.com/en/express/tracking/shippers_reference.html

and paste in you order number or your payment number. More and more people on OnePlus forums see their packages as ready to ship.

Might be of interest.
