**** The Official OnePlus 5 Thread ****

The battery life is actually one of the things I'm most impressed with in my OP5. I'm consistently getting 5-6 hours of screen time and haven't had it run out on me yet regardless of how much I've used it. It's certainly a dramatic improvement on my previous 2 LG Nexus 5 and 5X phones so maybe it just depends on what you had previously.

The only apps I've refrained from installing are the facebook ones as I know they're battery killers and constantly check GPS unnecessarily so they can punt you location based ads.

Yes, you could definitely feel it getting quite toasty while using Chrome. I don't think it's a very energy efficient browser, it's certainly not on Windows or Mac either - all the tests show it's much less efficient than Safari/Edge

The funny thing is that it's barely warm when playing games, but a browser can do this to a phone.

It's inconvenient but I would get used to using something else, Firefox is good for Android and supports plugins, like adblock.

I find Via to be an excellent mobile browser.

don't see an issue with that. just put in a disclaimer.
although as mentioned on XDA, DXO never announced partnership with OP, only OP did so...bit strange.

I'd turn off bluetooth and NFC if you don't really need them. Also set location to battery saving and then in the top right of location there are 3 dots, click them and turn of location and bluetooth scanning.

Ha, I may as well turn the phone off at that rate :D

No, I kind of need nfc/bluetooth on all the time tbh... they have been on my last two phones without issue. I'm have a look at the location battery thing although I do like to use location services fairly regularly.

I'm hoping this will all be fixed in the near future, the joys of owning a phone from release some might argue. The are lots of post on the OP forum about battery drain, for some, not for all. Some hopefully the devs are listening.

Apart from the battery, and I'm almost certain it was only like this after the last ota, I love the phone. And I don't think I suffer from the jelly-effect issue.

What are people doing about cases/screens and tempered glass etc? Brands and sources please ;)

I've ordered an Orzly clear flexicase from the rainforest for £6. Most places are waiting for stock so I just decided to go for a cheap one for now and I'll get something else in another month if i feel it isn't enough. Orzly are usually a fairly decent brand so hopefully it'll be ok.

I think all the phones have the same scrolling issue due to the upside down screen. It just depends on the individual as to whether you notice it and find out to be an issue. It's noticeable on mine if I rotate the device into landscape and scroll quickly down a forum page like this one. You can see that there seems to be lag/tearing (as though vsync is off if that makes sense) in the screen refresh at one side and it doesn't scroll consistently if you drag it up and down.

Actually, I notice the same issue whether the screen is rotated either way in landscape so I don't know if it's the same problem. Id have thought of the issue was due to the screen being upside down I'd only notice it in one direction? Portrait mode seems unaffected?

I rarely notice it in general use though so it hasn't really bothered me until it was pointed out as an issue. My main issue with the phone at the moment is that I'm wondering whether a 5.5" handset is too big for me to comfortably hold given prolonged use. The extra screen size is nice but I think a 5" phone might be better for one handed use and general comfort. Maybe the case with help with that as I'm probably gripping it awkwardly. The aluminium is pretty slippery, especially as the phone is so thin, so I worry it'll slide right though my hand. I still think I'll keep the phone as there's no other handset I'd rather have right now really though.

Might change my mind when the new iPhone and pixel are out though!

I actually removed the stock screen protector yesterday, its like a new phone. Smooth screen and no slight blue tint. As for a case I use the offical Karbon one from OnePlus.

+1

I didn't like the feel of the screen protector and never generally use them so I removed it the second I unboxed my OP5. To me they always feel 'sticky' when moving your finger across them.

I keep meaning to try one of the "Tempered Glass" screen protectors to see if they might feel less 'plasticy' and smoother like the original screen? Anyone any experience of the glass type screen protectors?

O2 finally sent me the correct device, and I have to say luckily I'm not experiencing any of these that are being reported. The things a little slippy in the hand but that aside it's all pretty positive, of note is how responsive it is too.

Some quality control, batch issues at the start maybe.

Location services are fine but they don't need to be high accuracy unless you're using your phone as a sat Nav. And the scanning thing means your phones scans for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi even when they're turned off. Seems pointless to me.
