The Official Pizza Discussion thread (was: Cooking Neapolitan Pizzas with the Uuni 3)

Thanks, I will wait to see which one Rotty links to, but with your additional info I realise they may be hard to get at a decent price anyway, short term!

I stand corrected! https://www.amazon.es/Termometro-Termómetro-Infrarrojo-Eventek-Temperatura/dp/B07F7HX5T9/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=termometro+laser&qid=1586611462&sr=8-11
Seems similar for 27 euros, unless you can point out something glaringly obvious I'm missing!

in january they were only 11 euros

i would just order from china personally on aliexpress or just wait until prices normalise.

you don't need a thermometer. i use mine just to see the temp and if it is burning bases i leave the door open for 20 seconds before i put a new one in to help it cool down. with gas you don't really need a thermometer as you could just lower it once it's up to temp you should be able to tell if it's too hot or cold after the first pizza is done and just increase or decrease the gas to keep temp steady.

More questions!

As I mentioned, space is limited for me. I would need to move the oven and cylinder inside when not in use anyway, in case it rained etc.

1) Any idea what type of small cylinder/capacity would last for x amount of pizzas etc?
2) Are these cylinders refillable or do you just buy a new one when it runs out? Some spanish homes use those huge orange cylinders and a man comes to swap them every so often. I don't want the hassle of that!
3) As the cost goes up I will become less keen :) Would I just need to buy an infrared thermometer and pizza peel on top the oven and gas cylinders to be ready to go? Approximate price of those please!

I know I can look up prices online, but i've never used camping stuff or bbqs or gas before etc so would just be searching blindly by lowest price, which isn't always the best method!

I have a Ooni 3 with a 13kg gas bottle. We have had it since October 18, and changed the bottle this week. This is pizza most weeks for 5 and two pizza partys for 20 people.

Towards the end my pizzas were losing there consistency and i had not realized the gas was so low

That's very useful info, thanks!

I think I will start smaller and see how much a 5-6kg one costs. More manageable to move inside and store as well when not in use.

Even if I used it twice a week to make 2 pizzas each time should last me at least 6 months. After that I can assess whether it's all worth the effort and buy bigger if needed! It looks like something I could probably sell easily if not.

I'm factoring in I would end up using more gas than you as most of it is probably consumed on the heating up stage, which i'd be doing at least twice as often as you, albeit I would be cooking less pizzas overall.

interesting data point so a 13kg is £25 for a refill ... so about £1 per use
... which is about 6KWhr electricity ...thinking about oven costs I currently have

as someone else said supply is short and prices stupid at moment
Thanks, 27 euros doesn't seem bad to me but I can wait till after I buy the oven. If I spend 250-280 on the oven and prices haven't dropped I can drop 27 for the thermometer! I imagine you can't put a price on just zapping things with it for fun whilst it's new!

The Koda seems ideal for me but the only ones for sale are for 249.99 (30 euro discount), with the caveat "These Ooni Koda pizza ovens have very minor cosmetic flaws in the front nose paint, from rubbing on the the packaging whilst in transit.".

Not sure if I want to take the plunge before seeing photos of the cosmetic damage, so have e-mailed their support team

I just ordered a Koda. Didn't even think to look here first. I normal do pizza on weber with a pizza stone and it is good but keen to improve and speed up. Seems like a meal where I am constantly on the move getting the next one while everyone else enjoys it. Should I have gone pellets? Any taste difference?

Someone mentioned earlier it tastes the same, just less smoke!

Did you buy on the official store, or does somewhere else have them in stock or cheaper?

I've been wanting to get one of these but they only have them with cosmetic damage at the moment. Not sure the £25 saving is worth it to get something that is already damaged. I've been torn between the various models for ages, but finally settled on the Koda as most people seem to say the taste difference is negligible but gas is much easier to use.

I had the Koda one in my cart (EU store), was going to buy the imperfect ones now I have the additional discount code, and seen the pictures. BUT now sold out and removed from cart. UK store is showing the same, so I guess they all come/came from the same stock/warehouse.

Can't believe my bad luck! You snooze you lose, I guess!

I did exactly the same! I was torn about buying one with cosmetic damage but figured with the extra 5% it was probably worth it. By the time I'd made the decision they'd all sold out. :(
