The Official Playstation 3 FAQ & Sticky thread

Trying to set up my sound currently... is there any way to have sound output through both HDMI AND Optical at the same time?

I've got a decent amp and 6.1 home theater setup, which I tend to use while playing for a good while, however, i'd like to have sound through the TV for the times where i'm just on it for 5-10 mins, without having to change the settings all the time! :(

Dont think so mate, its either one or other as far as i know. I do hope at some point Sony may introduce a system update which will allow users to have multiple saved settings.
BTW not stealing someone else's job, but I had to get rid of my PS3 tag at the mo as it was to big now.

Ah damn, you're right, i'll sort it out. Cheers!

Surprised it wasn't picked up on by Che Zefan though! ;)

Many thanks for the info about making accounts for different PSN stores, I am currently raiding the US store and will do the Japan one another day.

Won't it give me problems logging on to my normal Euro account though?

Wasn't there a Sonic the Hedgehog demo on the US store though? (my girlfriend is bugging me about it as I said there was a demo :( )

I've got Hong Kong, Japan and USA accounts, won't give you any problems with your UK account mate.

Yeah, found that out after downloading from the US site and I will set up the others when I have some more time.

Is the Hong Kong store different to the Japan store though?

I used this guide to get it going, it is very nice as it also has pictures: http://www.britishgaming.co.uk/?p=1827

I dont think theres much difference between the Japan and HK stores, execpt the HK one is in English and the Jap one is in Japanese. They both seem to have the same content.

Ah, I see, I guess I will do the Hong Kong one then as my Japanese isn't that good :p

Do you know if there was a Sonic demo on the US Store a while ago that has since been pulled?

I made a Hong Kong account and a Japan account without even finding address details, I just typed in Japan in every box and gave a fake e-mail address.

But I can't find a demo of Hot Shots Golf 5 (everybody's golf 5) on the Hong Kong or Japan site :( and it was deffo there in the past, why would they stop giving out the demo's

US backwards compatibility site is UP. (the 80gb model in USA uses the same software based ps1/ps2 emulation as the EU 60gb consoles).

http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus

This page seems to give you a lot of details as to what the problems are with individual titles. The EU page (http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc/bcGames.htm) just uses a vague 1-3 bar grading system for compatibilty.

i.e. on the USA one:

Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer 2007
Publisher: Konami Digital EntertainmentProduct No: SLUS-21464
Description: The following conditions have been confirmed on PS3 System Software Version 1.90: Throughout the Introductory FMV sequence, the FMV plays at approximately 90% of the normal performance speed. All conditions have been resolved on PS3 System Software Version 1.92.

Might be useful for those still buying ps2/ps1 games to play on their PS3.

About the HDD upgrade, is 160gb the max or will it take any 2.5" hdd, does it have to be 5400 or will 7200 work?
I think I read somewhere it has to be a 2.5" SATA 5400rpm drive formatted to FAT32 and that there is a big chance a 7200rpm drive will give you problem, deffo google this first before getting a 7200rpm drive.
