I really like the light on the PS4 when it's orange :)
Was also thinking it'd of maybe been cool if it could fill up like a progress bar if it was downloading/uploading anything while in standby.

While you are playing? My console is directly below the TV and I still don't see the light! even I peripheral vision. It's just not bright enough.

Some people just get a bit weird when it comes to standby/power lights. I've known people base expensive PC monitor decisions on the colour of the power LED.

Found the cause of my PS4 not downloading games from the WEB or APP, Warframe was set to downlaod, but didnt and was sat saying it was downloading, cancelled this and it works now.

It's not just a power light, it's a status light, it changes colour to inform the user what is what.

Ace design

White is on, Amber is standby and Blue is powering on.

It's not really much off a status light as when you are using the console it is always white. Would be nice if for the nutters like me there was an option to turn it off. Just to keep me from my tape. :)

Sorry to disagree but something which is running normally (white) to something which is not running normally (red) are two different status.

Black tape or not :)

edit... I don't think they'll ever let you turn it off with a update, they may do with the controller though.

Maybe I'm simple but for me if there is a picture on the screen and I'm gaming it's working. If I'm sat with the controller and nothing is happening then it is broke.

No need for fancy lights to tell me that... :D

I think the 'if it's not working' is the key here, the status led atleast gives some indication as to why. Red overheated for example :)

No, its rubbish, ps3 led was fine. I don't need a bloody great strip light as I have eyes.
Then you must have a different PS4 to me or over sensitive eyes, the strip is rather narrow and hardly noticeable when it's white in normal running.

Each to there own though.

Absolutely furious  just powered on my ps4 to find out there a damn strip of light while the console is powered on  they better prep themselves back at the store for one angry customer. demanding a refund

That's nothing mate, you should try turning on the pad, it's got a lit triangle on the back, can you imagine, a LIT TRIANGLE!
Makes me sick, all that money for a console and you have to put up with that sort of thing. It's a scandal.
