Just a warning Spook that that even Sony rec laying the console flat as theres a vent covered up now which is keeping hot air in the case
Really, the hot air comes sweet out the back, is there a vent under the stand you mean before i look

Im sure it comes out the side as well but I defo remember sony saying to lay it flat and not stand it upright

Its probs a few hundred pages back now as well but it was talked about on here also
Sony didnt say anything of the sort AFAIK (still selling an officially licensed stand so I dont see how they arent recommending it), its more that if you do stand it up vertically the stand does block a vent, but the stand itself does have a channel to allow air to pass though its obviously not as big as the vent.
Some users have noticed the PS4 might be warmer standing up so that might be where the recommendation is from...
EDIT: Having it on carpet might not be the best idea - likely to trap any heat its pushing out from the bottom?

Sony did or one of sonys mouthpeices did anyways. I remember one of the podcasts I listen to saying that but it was a while ago so I couldnt tell you who or when but they were laughing about the official stand as well. Plus to recommend you lay it flat is not saying do not stand it up at all,just its better to lay it flat. Youre right it does have the channel but its not as optimal as a clean exhaust from the side is it.

The over reaction is in your head.
PS4 sucks air in from the sides and blows it out the back. The official stand has a vent built in to prevent blocking the intake.
Not heard Sony saying it should not be stood up only that it was designed so you could. MS said the Xbox one cannot be stood up could be the confusion ?

Yeah I have the vertical stand and it's got vents, it may not be as optimal but It hasn't got hot for me. I was shocked when my Xbone couldn't stand vertically as it just refuses to read discs (and can damage it).
My fault for assuming it could stand vertically but honestly puzzles me why it's designed that way, seems like an oversight?
Speaking of the stand. The 'official' Sony PS4 vertical stand has not been available since the PS4 came out. In the US at least. There's 3rd party offerings, but I don't trust them. Still waiting on the official vertical stand to become available.

could have been rebel fm possibly. I know the xbox is not meant to at all but it was a sony worker who said its better to lay it flat. I dont even know if it was someone important they just said it was mentioned to them
