*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Sony needs to get this machine to market and instores in the EU before Christmas. They cannot afford to not get this launched in the EU this year.

If sony does allow second hand games to be used without a fee to the purchaser of a second hand title, and the machine does indeed give some fantastic games then Sony could have a little winner on their hands...

I like the ideas Sony has for cloud gaming, I also like the idea of how they'll download PSN titles, I like the idea the console doesn't have to make an internet connection at least once a day and I'm sure Naughty dog will be producing some great games for it..

Me too. Never played MGS4, Uncharted games, Heavy Rain to name a few

Do it. It's getting some great games this year too like The Last Of Us and Beyond: Two Souls. MS seem to have saved their exclusives for the One, which will give it a strong launch, but it does feel like they've just cast the 360 aside now with all focus on the new machine.

Heavy Rain has been on my list for ages and I never finished Uncharted 2 :( Don't think MGS4 is really my thing (Japanese games are confusing enough as it is, add not having played any previous games in the series and I won't have a clue whats going on!)

Yeah the PS3 has an amazing back catalogue and as has been said some awesome looking games to come. This year alone I've played through the 3 Uncharted games, Heavy Rain and GoW3 for the first time. I've also got MGS4 which I've not touched yet!

sony have always supported their previous gen consoles for some time after the next gen has been released.

PS2 has only recently stopped in production and PS3 will be supported long after the 360 is all but forgotten.

MS have a proven track record of pulling the plug on lots of their products and leaving it in the dust. The 360 is now all but finished, yet the PS3 has some great exclusives still to come, and the PS4 is just around the corner.

Its a great time to get a PS3 to fill in the void whilst waiting for either xbox one or PS4, whilst anyone buying a 360 won't get much other then the back catalog or some new multi platform releases..

If it was me, and I wanted a games console today, I'd without doubt recommend a PS3.

Sony are actively pushing for 1080p 60FPS as standard on PS4 :)

"We might see slightly smoother framerates on PS4," he said. "We're working with Sony right now, and they're trying to actively push 60 frames per second, 1080p. You might get situations where the graphics will be a little, but not much, lower quality on the Xbox One. Or, you might get some fixed at 30 frames per second situations in 1080p. It depends on the scale of the game. If your game is going to push the heck out of the PS4, you might have to do some little tweaks [for the Xbox One version]. But if you design your game to work on Xbox One at 60, it's going to work on PS4 at 60."

This is all hocus-pocus. At the start of the 360 gen, Microsoft were mandating 720p30 across the board. That soon went to (why is c-o-ck starred out) when Halo 3 and Call of Duty couldn't do it. I doubt 1080p60 will be adhered to either. :p

Yep... Sony were like, we can have games running 1080p30 , heck PD went on to say we'll have GT5 running 1080p60 - yeah with only one car and get a few cars on track, watch the screen tear kick in..!!

Wipeout HD has some type of adpative screen res, someone explained it to me a while back, but it wasn't true 1080p.

Only a few games used 1080p for PS3, the XMB ran in 1080p fine though... lol We should see quite a few titles in 1080p30 i'd have said, so its up from 720p30 so can't complain..

WipeoutHD was 1080p, its just that 1080p doesnt technically define the horizontal resolution at all. I know its a cop-out :p, now if you said it wasnt Full HD now then Id agree ;)

I dont know why Xenon89 made that post because the quote itself reads far more like the expectations are situational depending on the game - like that isnt a well-known known already :/

ps3ud0

Am I one of the few who don't care what it looks like? It will be tucked away anyway and even if it wasn't I don't really see the big focus on how aesthetically pleasing the unit is.

You’re kinda right. If the console was like Steam and digital content only, I’d stick the thing inside a cupboard or behind the telly with a RJ45 lead, HDMI lead for the TV and cable /DSL router and that would be it..

But, its going to have games on physical media still so you’ll need to at the very least have access to the slot loader or whatever mechanism it will have to accept the media.

The PS eye will sit under the telly ?? Or on top, the game pads or Bluetooth and you can charge them using any USB type charge I’d imagine. I don’t think I’ve ever charged a DS3 pad using the PS3 USB port.

There was nothing wrong with the Ps2 compared to the GIANT xbox and purple toy looking gamecube!

PS2 was simple, block design, it was nothing special. the PS3 phat as it become to be known wasn't that good looking IMO, the slim version was IMO better looking. the new PS3 super slim is a bit iffy mind

the xbox 1st xbox was a huge ugly brick. Even the 360 wasn't that good looking, the 360 slim however looked rather nice I felt, but it was still quite big compared to the PS3 slim

The gamecube looked like a fisher price toy lol, just as the first Playstation did.

I don't think the xbox one is ugly, ugly, its just looking too much like an old style bit of AV kit, but then long as it does what its meant to do, then guess doesn't matter that much.

Ps4 could end up looking like a old technics vinyl player lol it will still sell, same as the xbox one will sell.
