*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

i don't know man gamers don't want this used games thing including me. what i have been reading online mostly is that people are going to buy ps4 over xbox one provided sony doesn't do the same thing. microsoft is risking losing loyal base and this is huge issue that will affect their sales.

I think you mean in your opinion boycotting won't work, Boycotting is the only thing that would work IMO but of course it has to be a mass boycott. sure fanboys will lap up any old **** that gets thrown at them but I don't think the majority of 360 owners fall into that category & if (and it is a big if) those that bought the 360 because for whatever reason they thought it was the best option last gen were to switch to PS4 then I think X1 might well be considered a failure.
Only time will tell of course I'm not a mystic.

Surely there are enough people out there who will buy the console regardless of whether it blocks used games or not? We have yet to see what games Microsoft are hiding up their sleeves, and they might be good enough to warrant buying a console that doesn't allow you to use secondhand games.

Without a doubt. People say they don't like online passes or micro-transactions, they buy the games anyway. People say they don't like DLC, they buy it anyway. People said they were unhappy with the 360's RRoD failure rates, yet the console kept selling anyway.

People will moan, say they aren't buying it, but it'll sell well regardless. The desire to play the games it has will persuade them eventually.

Surely the consoles are simply going the way of Steam? There are no used games on Steam, and it's massively successful.

(Granted, there are a few DRM-free alternatives on PC, both legal and illegal, but lots of people are happy simply using Steam for everything)

That's more than likely where they'll end up, yes. Steam's success was largely helped by the gradual reduction (and in many cases, removal) of physical retail space for PC games though, something the consoles don't have to worry about.

I'd be happy with them using the Steam model and I'd be happy to see second hand games die off permanently.

In that case, they ought to do for all games what they do now with some games - give you 1 hour total access to play to see if you like a game before buying. And have regular sales with big discounts. :D

Yep that would be excellent :)

I definitely think sales should be better, Steam has shown how it should be done. Xbox did have some very good ones but they were irregular and inconsistent. I haven't had a PS3 long enough to judge how the sales have been!

I don't know how many people will or won't neither does anyone it's all speculation at this point, also nobody know what games MS are hiding but they do know that the ones they have shown Forza for instance are great games but are they so great that people won't be tempted to jump ship I'm not so sure.
Oh and don't call me Shirly:)

It won't be like the Steam model though, it will be closer to Games for windows live which I think is pretty much a steaming pile of excrement in comparison.
All games will eventually go digital distribution only but at the moment with massive disparity in the quality of internet services/connection worldwide it won't come to that anytime soon.

Well I've had more problems with Steam than GFWL. This isn't the place for that discussion though.

There's no reason we can't switch to that model now, games don't have to be downloaded they can be bought physically and then tied to an account (like steamworks games)

Super Stardust spiritual successor a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

yeah just read the news on this i loved SSD of psn the only trophy i did not manage to get was the collect 15 bombs.

if and when i pick a ps4 up the first title i will get is killzone 4 hopefully they will revert to kz2 spawn system with spawn grenades rather than them silly tach points.

In the press release from EA for the new need for speed it said the PS4 and XB1 versions would be released in November, and then that part suddenly disappeared... Oops :)

Yeah, I agree with you there but this is the PS4 thread. ;) I meant PS4 on these shores will be next year.

Yea i can see this, and then the internet will switch places and hate on the ps4 and that will be held against it til the end of time :3

Hope they dont do that, we will see i think thats pess common now than back then

That's another thing see what are the yields going to be like on these amazeballs system on chips and availability of GDDR5? The Cell had to lose a whole core (SPU) because getting decent yields of 8 cores was proving too problematic.
