*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

as for updates they will come soon after the japan launch, when the japanese people start asking sony to update these things, they will come pretty fast.

you only need to wait another month or so as it launches next week.

as for the person saying sony are slow to update, they aren't they managed to patch other OS out almost instantly after the leak was released on the internet by the guy who jailbroke all the apple devices.

Does anyone know the max amount you can have in your wallet? Ive tried to find it online without any luck, £115 seems to be the max ive got to however ive had a few pennies more than that but i cant add another £35 card. Seems daft you cant even have two full games worth of credits.

it's £120 iirc but don't quote me on that, I'm sure i've read that on HUKD.

they set a limit to help prevent credit card fraud i think, people sticking £100's of credit on accounts, etc.

Can you put an SSD in the PS4? Has anyone here done it?

you can stick any 2.5" drive smaller than a certain size in the ps4.

i think it's 2.5" drives under a certain height like 22mm or something, google it.

imo it's pointless doing atm because the amount an SSD costs is insane compared to the amount of performance you get from it.

it's like a few seconds here and there.

contrary to other posts my experience of a second hand 512gb drive is very positive. When my system powers on at night for updates there is no clicking noise obviously as no moving parts and after each death in killzone there is no loading time at all. It did not cost much - £150 secondhand for 512gb of solid memory. All games I've installed were playable almost right away - I think killzone took 20 seconds to install before playable.

The psn shop bugs out with blanks in the items and crashes all the time though is that a ps4 thing or an ssd thing?

it's been proven that a hybrid drive is the better choice unless you play a lot of story/single player games with large levels. you get more space for less money. it loads just as fast for games like COD if your playing multiplayer only as it will cache the stuff you play frequently (basically the online maps).

out of interest I would like to know what is the fastest 2.5" mechanical drive you can put in a PS4? just to see if i could upgrade to that for nothing (sell the current drive on MM or ebay)

Yeah just realised I changed it to just a mechanical drive only as he asked.

I won't be messing with my PS4 till the warranty is up, already had to send it back once.

I'd go with a 1TB SSHD for £70, myself.

£90 for the toshiba and £100 for the seagate

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/chart...compare,2985.html?prod[5523]=on&prod[5525]=on

these guys have done extensive tests and i'm wondering which of those 2 mechanical drives are better as they seem to be the top 2.

or is there there a hybrid drive you can get for £70 ish elsewhere even (just give me the serial number and i'll google a competitor)?

also i have heard that seagate drives are crap for reliability and WD are a lot better. I've always bought WD.

Shame they didn't give the PS4 a SATA 3 controller.

Actually after a quick google it seems no one really knows what the controller is in the PS4. If it does have a decent SATA III controller I'd like to see some SSD tests with it.

Seagate ST1000LM014, cost me £71 but it looks like the price has gone up a bit since then. It'll probably come back down again in a few days, it did last time.

found it for £70 something including delivery.

then i found this

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB 2.5" 4GB SSD Hybrid Hard Drive ST95005620AS 1 Year Wty

for £47.95 refurbished

and it's faster it has a 7200 RPM mechanical drive

rather than 5400 rpm (the one you bought)

but it is smaller, but i don't care i'll never use more than 150GB anyway most likely.

http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/intern.../laptop-solid-state-hybrid-drive/specs/#specs

full spec sheet available there for comparison

now i just read this

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1499533/ps4-how-to-update-fw-via-usb-install-a-new-hdd

apparently that faster drive is older and incompatible

but the person in that thread did some tests and

http://cdn.avsforum.com/b/ba/500x1000px-LL-badc5abf_stockps4hdd.PNG

that's how fast the stock drive is

just so i know the difference between all 3, apparently the stock drive in the PS4 is very fast, and they didn't skimp on it so no point me spending money if there is going to be no noticeable improvement unless i go full SSD.

edit:

just as i thought, no point buying a faster mechanical drive, improvement is tiny. hybrid drives will only be faster in certain circumstances and SSD is just far too expensive for what you get.

i'll wait 2-3 years before looking at the options again.

found a drive for £50

ST500LM000

Seagate 500GB Laptop Thin SSHD SATA 6GB/s 64MB 7mm Hard Drive

verified working with PS4

should be able to sell old drive for £30 meaning it's a £20 upgrade not bad, i doubt i'll ever need 1TB I have 320GB spare on the PS4 as it is, no way I am going to fill that when i only play a handful of games most of which are sold on within 6-12 months (therefore I would delete them off the drive)

gonna order one now worth it for £20 i reckon

edit:

just ordered that for £52.97 including delivery

anyone sold their stock PS4 drive? how much did you get for it?
