*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Ah nice one, that'll keep you busy! I know everyone says the first one hasn't aged well but I still find a certain charm in it. I like the fact that it's mostly based in one location so you get a real sense of time passing by as you're going through the chapters. Makes it feel like one long journey.

Took my console partially apart yesterday to give it a clean out. Fairly straightforward and has made a noticeable difference to the noise levels under high load now; it's far quieter playing The Division and although the fan does still ramp up in Uncharted 4, it's not as bad and not as immediate either. A surprising amount of dust was expelled from the vents, fan and heatsink, I really didn't expect it to be as bad as it was.

Well worth doing if you've had your PS4 for a couple of years.

I opened mine up last week and removed all the thermal paste and put on some new stuff. The factory applied stuff was all over the place, had dried out and there was barely any on the CPU/APU.

Before I did that, mine had sounded like a hairdryer when I was playing Until Dawn. It's now significantly quieter.

I was considering doing the thermal paste too but it looked like it'd require a bit more time and with the amount of dust I removed, I was curious to see what a difference that alone made. I'll run it as-is for a while and see, now I've taken it apart myself once I know it's not a big thing doing it again.

where you keep it makes a difference ie how far from carpets and floors - yours was where?

Few decent sales on psn. I picked up zombie army trilogy, borderlands the handsome collection and San Andrea's. I'm also very tempted to get divinity at 16.99.

8 years since Valkyria Chronicles came out on PS3, the remastered PS4 version is out today. Supposed to be one of the best games the PS3 had. I remember renting it, playing for about half an hour and then moved on to something else.

+1 in that it's a good game.
I recommend it, I played an awful lot of the Steam Version. Ignore the anime nonsense, it's a strategy game and there's Japanese voice options if you can't stand dubs. A shame that the sequels released on the PSP... though if you play this game you'll be scratching your head as to why it would even need sequels (trying to keep this spoiler-free).

Does the PS4 Remastered Version include the DLC? Like Behind Her Blue Flame? I recommend trying out the DLC levels early so you can use the unlock in the main game. And there's plenty of neat secrets and unlocks too. It get's much better later on. You might not like it if you don't like strategy though, that's fine :)

I do remember liking what I played of Valkyria Chronicles on PS3 but I can't for the life of me think what game would have made me stop playing it. There was clearly something better at the time. :p

Out of the blue, it seemed that my PS4 of a few years old started to make the hair dryer impression on rather less intensive games being played for a short period.

Being of the original overclocking era I stripped her and applied some artic silver to see if it made much of a difference.

I'm gob-smacked at the difference, I though at best it would quieten it down a little with some longer periods until the fan went full whack, but under the same conditions I've had to check a few times that the fan is actually working, it took a good hour of the heavier games to get a fan noise.

Seriously can't recommend doing this enough, it's something I'll do every year now as it was a such a quick and easy strip.

Quick question.

I am considering pre-ordering the next Call of Duty digitally via PSN.

Does PSN allow pre-loading of content like Steam, thus making the game available at midnight on the day of release?

I will be streaming this for 24 hours on release and want to get started as soon as possible in order to get more views (its for charity).

Unless..... purchasing via an online marketplace and getting the title a few days earlier might be possible...

Yes PSN does allow pre load for most of the pre order titles, however PSN normally don't charge your CC or paypal /wallet until a few days before release, but it appears the new COD is subject to immediate payment - so be very sure you want the game before that pre order, as looks like its not an easy one to cancel. But from your charity comment, seems that won't matter in your case.

Correct assessment regarding the charity commitment!

I will be buying this regardless, and will more than likely want to start streaming from midnight, so the minute the game is released on release date is pivotal to try and get the largest audience share possible.

This is purely for charity sponsorship and awareness, I very rarely stream on Twitch these days.. if ever tbh.

I'm currently contacting companies for sponsorship at the minute.. its fun trying to organise and plan all of this out.

Now I know that PSN allows Pre-loading of games.. I think that may be the way to go..

Holy cow. I seem to be both happy and sad about the amount of games now available on PS4. Happy because of the sheer choice available and sad because there is tons of stuff I am still to purchase like Far Cry Primal, Doom 4, Batman trilogy, Uncharted 4, Wolfenstein, the list goes on...

Out of curiosity (and as a backup measure) I totted up all my PS store digital items in a spreadsheet and was agog that I've spent £500 on games already! Destiny was the biggest culprit at nearly 100 notes.

Digitally I've probably spent less than £100. BF4 with Premium was £29.99 and TLoU was £17.99. Hmm possibly more then thinking about it with the Destiny expansions as well. I do try to steer clear of digital though - I've never paid full price for a new digital game. Sometimes I'll go for the sale stuff if the price is right but most of the time I buy retail and sell/trade on. Digital releases are just way too expensive. It's not like I can't afford it but in principal why the hell should I pay £59.99 for something that I can get for so much less in physical format?
