Am I alone then in thinking that PS Store prices are insane?

Does everyone want to pay £60 per game with no 2nd hand market?

I guess everybody became millionaires overnight :p

Honestly I just never bother trading/selling games anymore, once I realised that I figured I might aswell buy digital as it's so much quicker/easier. If you ignore resale, it's not really any more expensive if you get credit from third parties. For instance right now the cheapest place I see TLOU2 is £48.85, but you can EASILY buy £55 of PSN credit for less than that. Plus you can divide it by 2 if you share an account with someone, even better.

With regards to the event, I enjoyed the quick run through the games. Wasn't impressed to see Rockstar flog a game onto a third generation though. It is time to release GTA6 and this should be pretty epic on the PS5 and XSX once they've got to grips extracting all the performance from these consoles. I will happily wait another couple of years for this, if it is well polished.

You see that's where I feel I'm an odd one out. As someone who's not played GTA V (yeah I know), I can appreciate the fact that it will (I really hope) be much better on PS5. PS4/XBone versions were 1080p restricted, and even high end GPUs (costing around as much as the entire console is expected to cost) can't play it at 4k 60fps with max details. Now I'm not saying it isn't a money grab, it obviously is a factor, but it's hardly like they're just porting rocket league.

It's only a matter of time before SSDs become mandatory for PC. I'm holding off until they do. I'll need a 2TB drive, and they're currently expensive. I don't fancy spending the best part of £200, only to find out later that it isn't fast enough or is the wrong format.

Looking at the PS5 games list, Sony have really been throwing the cash around. From last night's presentation, the only games which will release simultaneously on PS5 and Series X are GTAV, Hitman 3, and Pragmata. The bulk of games show will, however, launch simultaneously on PC, and will come to Series X after a period of exclusivity. Would have hoped to see this practice die off, but it seems it's worse than ever with PS5.

Did they though? Isn't it mainly first party games?

I wouldn’t mind the digital edition, but I have a couple of reservations.

Firstly, it has to be 2TB minimum. Anything less will be a waste of time.

Secondly, Digital games have always been ridiculously priced, especially at launch

Lastly, I like the fact that with a drive, you can go to places like CEX and get really good bargains on second hand games.

Maybe I’m just being pernicious, but it’s just a worry I have about going digital only.

Nope.

By my count, they showed off 5 first party games:

Spider Man
Ratchet
Sackboy
GT7
Horizon

Happy to be corrected though.

The rest are all third party. Returnal and Demon Souls are PS5 exclusives. The bulk of remaining third-party titles are timed console exclusives; they'll launch on PS5 and PC. The only exceptions being the three I mentioned in the other post.

To be fair, Microsoft had a bit of this too during their reveal last month. But not on the same scale.

Looking like it'd be likely a 1.6TB if it's double the minimum, but even then, surely you'd just use an external USB 3 HDD to spit games back and forth as required? Even if games are going to be bigger than 100GB, do you really need 10 instantly available?

Not at all. £60 for a game that you can't sell on is ridiculous.

It did seem a weird place to start with GTA, clearly some exclusive down the line there I feel.

Some different/interesting looking games though amongst the usual fodder.

I preferred the look of the digital version console.

Peronally, while I'm "digital only" now, I do have similar reservations. It works well on PC, because the games are generally cheaper (also don't buy many new AAA releases; it's mainly older titles and indies). It works on my Xbox One S because of Game Pass (I haven't bought a single game for it).

I bought Red Dead 2 at launch on PS4, via the Indonesian store. Thought I was being clever, as I only paid about £30. Seemed sensible to save the £10-£15 vs a disc copy as it was a huge game that I expected to be playing for ages (like RDR and GTAV). It didn't click with me at all. If I'd bought a disc copy, I could have sold it on for £35-£40 (launch week). Instead I was stuck with it. Massive downside for digital right there.

I think I am a bit too stubborn as I was never impressed they released it on 360/PS3 at the end of their consoles life and then shortly after released it on the new XBO/PS4 for full price. I still saw it as a last gen game then and didn't purchase it. :(

I'll definitely buy the physical drive version. I like being able to buy a new release game, play it for a month and flip it for 2/3rds of what I paid for it. That way a new title never costs me more than £10-20. Likewise it's great being able to buy second hand games which are a year or two old for only £10-20.

To hell with paying £50-60 for a 'digital copy' of a game. The future is subscription based anyway. Not "buying" digital copies of individual games which you never actually own. I'll wager Sony offer an Xbox Game Pass equivalent within a year or two. I wonder if down the line we'll also see MS/Sony offering 'free' consoles with monthly contracts/subscriptions like mobile phone providers do.
