Haven't seen a presentation yet. But i do have a decent PC for gaming. As much as i would appreciate xbox performance, even if it's better then PS5. I will choose to go ps5 route. i do understand that i will need to upgrade my gpu to catch up with xbox. But in my eyes, if you've got a good gaming pc, why bother with xbox, it's the same, same games, just a different os. Where ps is a bit of a different matter, i liked my ps3, and now ps4 pro that i have is giving me a very good gaming experience when i'm at my parents place hooking up ps4 to a telly and just having a good gaming session, and then, i even don't miss my pc. With new consoles graphics is going to get even better, so difference between PS5, Xbox, and PC will disappear. it's kinda shame that in the time a had ps4 pro i needed to upgrade my gpu, where ps4 just always gave me a good experience. I see a difference in graphic quality, but does it matter that much, i would say no. It's not like in old days, when pc surpassed any console by a big margin in graphics. Good times for us gamers.

I feel the same but X is still very tempting because it's stronger than my PC but as you say I can get gamepass on my PC and play most of the games anyway albeit with less graphical fidelity.

I suppose the deciding factor for many will be the cost at the till.

Seems like series x has the upper hand in terms of performance but at what point does the extra grunt stop justifying the extra price tag?

Given the PS5 specs are still pretty respectable + a higher likelihood of outstanding exclusives + vr I am leaning more towards PS5 as it stands.

The form factor will also play a part in my decision.

It would be nice to afford both but to be honest I have a pro and 1x already and a massive backlog of games. I may well wait till the PS5 pro (or whatever it ends up being called) before buying anyway.

Overall it seems like MS are just selling a mid range gaming PC in a consoles clothing and there really isnt anything to differentiate it with a PC. Whereas the PS5 seems to be a console at heart and I think that there will be better than expected results when devs start "coding to the metal". Both consoles will be great but there is a part of me that feels like MS are losing their way a bit but Sony are remaining true to the purpose of a console platform.

Knowing Sony they'll use a 40mm fan.

Also, to be fair to Sony, Xbox One X is quite a bit more powerful than PS4 Pro in terms of GPU power but aside from Forza I've hardly used mine.

Don't see the point in speculating, just wait until they're out and see what the devs are saying in regard to the hardware. If the trend of better exclusives on PS continues then I see no real reason to get an Xbox, even if they're great I could probably still enjoy them on PC anyway, I've never been too arsed about having the absolute best graphics anyway as long as the image is clean.

Exactly this - if the PS5 undercuts the Series X with great games then forget about a extra few cycles of CPU and GPU power, people will go for the PS5.

'Back in my day' the 3DO and Philips CDi had awesome specs, but the price was high and whilst the games looked awesome the playability was rubbish.

Just gave the announcement video a go. Could they have found anyone more boring? I lasted 8:30 in to the video.

Xbox: Let's show what the new console can do, demonstrate game switching, etc.
PlayStation: Let's use a voice-over reject from that "Calm" sleep app to explain the features in minute detai.

It's their GDC presentation, it's not meant for the gaymers.

It's all about the exclusives for me and Sony have that in buckets compared to MS.

That the PS5 looks like it's going to be cheaper as well is just another bonus :D

Does anyone actually believe this? lol

Why would they explain SSDs to devs? Or indeed, HDDs? It's not like they've been developing on them for, I don't know, their whole career.

I actually listen to a lot of GDC talks and this ain't one. This is for the consumers, even though more the enthusiasts out there, not devs.

Sadly Sony's marketing is very lacklustre atm. They're holding strong because the PS4 momentum is huge, but this is a poor effort. I think they'll redeem themselves once they show games though.

Huh? That can't be right. Devs don't develop for games on SSDs (unless they're working on Star Citizen). The tech behind Sony's SSD is pretty new - six priorities for data, I/O co-processors, Kraken, etc. is not standard stuff.

You don't think devs haven't had there hands and Dev tools working on this for how long?

I mean the HDDs. Why do devs need to be told seek times exist? Or what the speeds are?

And even SSDs, is it really the case that there's a dev out there who is just clueless about SSDs? Like they don't even understand the basics of what they are? C'mon. They develop on PCs with SSDs, ofc they know. This isn't a GDC talk. Here's a GDC talk, notice the difference:

I see all the experts are in the house :p All we really have on both sides at this point in time are specs on paper. Price and games will probably be the determining factor as to which people buy and we know SFA about those.

Mid range? It has better hardware than 98% of gaming PC's.

Nevertheless, in real terms it's still mid spec based on what hardware is out there and the kind of setup that could be built. The GPU is about a £300 pc equivalent.

Cards are on the market today that have 14tflops capability just on their own. Supported by high spec components elsewhere not to mention the capacity of linking GPU's the spec available is very high, so whichever way you cut it, the series x is still mid spec.

Just going off tflops its similar to a gtx2080 so quite a way from midrange and a £300 gpu.

they might get away with it too

Cerny said the ps5 draws less power than the PS4

Don't trust Sony's boost clock marketing - Cerny releases the actual fixed specs they had used before in testing based on the power budget and cooling they use.

If instead of smart shift they try to do the Microsoft way and lock clocks the PS5 can only manage all core 3.2ghz on the cpu while Xbox does all core 3.66ghz. For the GPU the ps5 could only manage 1.8ghz on its 36 CUs while the Xbox does 1.8ghz on its 52 CUs.

The Tflop number released today is absolute best case peak Sony has learnt how to put out marketing junk like AMD. The PS5 is closer to the 9tflop rumours we've seen - this 10.2tflop number is junk - it's a peak number that cannot be sustained just like ryzen 3000 cant sustain 4.7ghz.

You can quote me now - the PS5 is going to struggle to do native 4k locked 60fps in AAA games while the XBox will east up games for breakfast
