Are Sony really that hard up that they can’t absorb the hardware costs like everyone else they just announced huge profits for PlayStation too. It’s common knowledge losses on hardware are made up in software and not passed onto the consumer especially two years after launch. It just stinks of a big up yours to the customers and no matter how many facts and figures are produced to justify it nobody will care as has been shown in the media. It’s just greed and Sony again showing how much they really cares about it’s customers.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a company primarily selling luxury electronics probably doesn't feel like it has to consider the wider social responsibility of price increases.

I am far from in favour of huge corporations making huge profits but I'm also prepared to be realistic about the whole thing. Costs are increasing for various sectors, the idea that all these businesses - big and small - can and should absorb 100% of that is very idealistic. Right now we're all in far more trouble from cost of living increases and dizzying energy costs than we are from an extra £30 added to a games console.

I guess the other thing to bear in mind is that Sony/Microsoft typically sell these systems at cost already so any inflation will result in them making a loss which they clearly don't want to do. Just look at the price of computing components and how things like GPU's/etc have lept in price in recent years. As others have said Sony already cant keep the things in stock to meet demand so there's no need for them to be competitive on price.

We've already seen this happen with the Oculus Quest headset which jumped in price by £100. This was another product very clearly being sold at cost/loss so it's not surprising to see immediate increases for loss making hardware like consoles. They won't be the last company to hike prices given the current rate of inflation and soaring energy prices IMO.

I think the problem is they announced huge profits on PlayStation and then a few days later a price rise. I think it’s understandable why people are a bit peeved especially those who have not got a console yet.

Yep and this on top of their game price increase as well.

They making Nintendo look like saints at the moment.

Perhaps they would make more money if they release more games, the game library for the PS5 is super sparse, FF7 Intergrade is still the only game I own for it.

Do you even own a PS5 yet?

Supply and demand economics.

1 Choose a needy (almost drug addict like) customer base.

2. Artificially inflate demand for your product (or even genuinely - the end result is the same).

3. Increase prices because <insert excuse here>

4. Bank on your needy customer base throwing their money at you.

5. Profit.

You could replace 1 and 4 with platitudes relating to hot product and market leading tech etc but viewing the gaming community as a bunch of smack heads leering after their next fix may be more amusing :p

Price rise is a good thing in my eyes. I think the PS5 is a great bit of kit, but I've not felt the need to upgrade from the PS4 Pro yet.
With a global price hike, it just guarantees that I won't be making any spur of the moment purchases. Well, at least not for another Sony console anyway. :D

I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of people in the same boat. PS5 is a luxury, and this is why we like competition. Buy Xboxes if you're annoyed by this decision.

Thats a list or great games tbf if there not liked I'd be at a loss.

If your meaning forza horizon 4 and 5 there nothing like GT7, GT7 is pure sim racing and a niche one at that so I'd expect that to be a no.

Sackboy however is fab me and my son play it together he is 6 though.

Just got Dying Light 2 on disc and the console just says unreadable disc. Every other disc I have wheels fine. It's there such a thing as bad brand new discs?
