Am I old and miserable or something because what's wrong with the default PS5 controller? I've used the default controllers for every console since the SNES and never had a problem except for the Megadrive one being awful.

All these new fancy ones seem to cost a fortune.

I’ll join you in the old and miserable club then. I’ve only ever used the controller that came with the console.

Old man/men yell at clouds :p

There is nothing wrong with the default controller in the same way there is nothing wrong with a £5k car vs a £50k car. Some people want one and others are happy to pay for the other.

Add me as another Victor Meldrew who thinks the standard PS5 controller is perfectly fine. But I say that as someone who primarily plays the AAA exclusive single player titles - not 3rd party competitive multiplayer stuff. Would I be right in thinking that many people who buy these "elite" controllers see themselves as "hardcore" competitive gamers ?

Not really. I’m not (or at least I don’t consider myself to be) but I appreciate the extra control options and features of “elite” style controllers that bring additional dimensions to how you play a game.

One thing, for example, that so love on my elite v2 are the reduced trigger travel options and the option to stiffen up the stick resistance. Just suits my preferences more than a standard controller setup.

In terms of PS5, I think it is pretty solid as it is, but if I can get my hands on their upcoming “pro” controller as a 2nd hand purchase at a reasonable price then I will do in order to enjoy the additional benefits.

Definitely not paying RRP though! I also won’t be buying that Razer offering. Silly money for a controller, even if it does have bells and whistles.

I suspect each person will have their limits on how much they will spend on a controller. Mine is about £150-£160 ish.

Others might be higher or lower, so I guess to conclude; to each their own! :)

As someone who still uses his 360 launchday controller on his PC, and those were like £40 back in the day....controller prices now are just stupid and driven by folks repeatedly paying silly money for them even if they do have replaceable bits...

I am toying with the idea of getting a PS5, Several family members have suggested to club together and get me one for Christmas which is incredibly thoughtful but I am just worried I won't use it that much.
I am very casual gamer having only played Fifa and COD in the past several years on my old Xbox One S but perhaps now is a good time to get in the next gen and try something better!

Does the £389 Digital Edition console come back in stock regularly?
I can see a couple places have the DE+Fifa in stock but seems a bit over priced so id rather get the DE only and get the games separate to save a little.

Ive signed up to some stock alerts on Discord and Telegram so ill wait and see if anything pops up.

Question, I currently use V-Moda Crossfade Wireless earphones with my PC etc, could these be used with PS5 (via bluetooth) or would I need to get a headset?

I'm not convinced on them even being better, certainly they are milking the price. Bet they cost a small amount more than the standard controller, as above its the same with gpus, if people didn't pay stupid prices, they wouldn't be that price.

Ps + subs 25% off on Sony Playstation.

I stacked another 12 month essential (£37.49) sub and then upgraded my almost 2 years to extra for £49.32. Extra until 10/2024.:)

Just be wary, I have Premium that is expiring next month. I have no intention of getting anything other than Essential but downgrading the subscription doesn't occur until the expiry next month, when the PS+ deal won't exist anymore. I can't buy Essential until that date.

I think it does depend on what games you play; something like CoD I don't think the back buttons make much difference. For a game like OW though, where it was clearly designed for PC primarily, it starts to show some limitations to playing with a pad. For example, one of Lucio's main move mechanics is to wall ride but to do so you need to be able to hold jump and aim at the same time. It's possible on a standard controller with some weird uncomfortable claw grip but far easier with back buttons. I wouldn't say that makes me hardcore competitive for just wanting to play the game as designed but arguably it does, as it does give a competitive advantage over those who don't have a fancy controller.

Though I don't care about all the other stuff like fancy sticks etc. especially not for £200+ so I just fitted back buttons to the standard controller for £40 which is more reasonable.
