Might pick a PS5 very soon. Not decided on disk or digital edition, even though I plan to buy most things digitally, the disc version may be good for the odd blu ray movie or borrowed game.

Can anyone comment on the noise of the disk drive and fan:

1) when gaming (assuming disc drive just spins up on game boot up for verification as the game plays from SSD)
2) when watching blu ray 4k

If I just used it for gaming is the fan noise the same on the disc and digital edition?

I had a PS4 pro launch which was horrendously loud. I guess for the PS5 I would end up with the revision 2 hardware, but not sure if this improved anything in terms of noise. I had a Series S that was silent, but got bored of it and got rid of it this week.

My PS5 is a fraction louder than my XSX, but it’s barely audible even at heavy load. Never use the disc drive, so can’t comment.

Fan when gaming is inaudible, Disc drive when gaming is inaudible. There is some coil whine in some titles but it's not very loud.
Disc drive when watching blu ray inaudible.
Disc pays for itself when you look at game deals for example I got Sonic shortly after release for 34.99 and my friend who has digital edition is still holding out as he's been unable to get below full price.

Game disks spin when booting the console if there is one in there and when initially starting the game. Silent after a few seconds. I’ve got one UHD Blu-ray and that is inaudible. All in all very quiet. My base PS4 was ridiculously loud at times under load.

I will occasionally buy a game on disk but offers are pretty decent so I am 90% digital these days. For me it’s better to have both for the choice.

Picked up a new Steelseries Arctis 7P for £80 off ebay today. It replaces the superb wired Arctis 3 version that I've been using sound and fit wise. It's essentially the same thing but wireless. So far it sounds superb and is exactly what I wanted in a headset.

I have this headset too and can confirm, it sounds amazing. Battery life lasts ages too

I got the 7P+ earlier this year to replace my Pulse 3D which I found quite uncomfortable after using for a while (plus the earcup coverings were coming loose), it's far superior in almost every way. Only thing I miss is the PS5 switching audio output modes automatically when the headset is turned on/off, but it's a small price to pay for a better headset overall. £80 is a great price for it.

They were very comfortable. Unfortunately mine were faulty as certain frequencies were distorted, notably some explosions and Argoooos didn't have a replacement set :(
Only other annoyance I think was no usb c if I recall.

Just noticed Audeze have a new set out, but it's even heavier than the Penrose, not sure I fancy wearing half a kilo on my head.

In really enjoying the Witcher game. Need to find something similar for when I'm done.
So far the games on ps5 have been a bit disappointing.
Only really Horizon that seemed worthy.

if anyone is looking for a compatible internal SSD, I can confirm the Gigabyte Aorus 7000s (1TB) works well. It comes with a double sided heat sink and fits just right.

My PS5 picked it up immediately, formatted it and was showing a full 1TB of available space. Performance was noted to be 5,675 MB/s read speed and whilst this is a lot lower than its capability on paper it seems to be performing just as well as the internal PS5 storage on the games I have tried (Forbidden West, Returnal, Demon’s Souls etc).

Apparently, the Gigabyte SSD can be optimised via a tool, but I can’t be bothered installing it into my laptop to do that.

I hope Playstations QC is a lot better than Xbox when the new edge controller comes out. I had to get a replacement straight out of the box when the white version came out for the xbox elite.

Brother inlaw picked up the brand new elite 2 at the weekend and it was also a dud straight out of the box. X and Y buttons not registering often.

Was about to preorder off the PS store but think I will wait and pick it up from Argos fir no quibble returns if needed.

I installed a Gigabyte Aorus 7000s (2TB) back in August 2021 - so I think it has had a revision change since then.
However, mine was giving me 6657 MB/s - I think the PS5 is just not giving an accurate reading however.
So long as it is over that minimum specification, all will be well.
