I think this generations consoles are powerful enough and there won't be a pro this time round.
Ah that yeah I did see that. Sounds more like they’ll have one model (disk less) with an option to attach a Blu-ray player rather than a new slimmer model. Very doubtful of a pro this gen.clickbait news sitessupposed to have a removable cd drive
Yep, it is one of the best sci-fi storylines alongside games like Mass Effect imo.I was late to HZD, picked it up on PC for a tenner.....but I'd go as far as saying it's my favourite game of all timeabsolutely loved it
Getting bored of waiting for the PC release, and tempted to buy a PS5 just to play FW. It's a bit much buying an entire console for one game though......mmmmmmmm
I'm confused by this, the digital version already exists. I can't see the value in releasing the same again with just the ability to add a drive. The revised version having no built-in optical drive has been rumoured by many people and makes so much sense.
It makes sense from a manufacturing and distribution point of view. The base product is then the same, and the bluray drive just becomes a bundled (either in box, or at point of sale) accessory.I'm confused by this, the digital version already exists. I guess, although I think slimming it down a bit would increase sales - even the one without a drive is a behemoth. Reducing scale would reduce manufacturing costs if the past has been anything to go by.It makes sense from a manufacturing and distribution point of view. It avoids situations where there is e.g. surplus Digital Consoles but no Optical Drive Consoles
Until there's another die shrink (it's already been shrunk from "7nm" to "6nm") then it's still unlikely to get a slimmer form factor. (as the power consumption and heat generation need to come down to allow the cooling system to be safely shrunk)I guess, although I think slimming it down a bit would increase sales - even the one without a drive is a behemoth. I assume the digital has just a big empty space where the drive normally sits? I don't think it's physically any different in size so a slim would make sense as it would save some cost of materials.

True, but it adds up, especially if it's common parts to get more purchasing power for components. Less chance of somebody using the wrong part too.The motherboard is identical (at lease on the original models), aside from the connectors for the disc drive were not populated

Slimming down the plastic shell wouldn't really save much in terms of bill of materials though.
Having completely identical motherboards, and identical shells is probably more of a saving, in terms of one assembly line etc.
I wonder if it's already possible with the die shrink to adjust the case and cooling to make it a little slimmer, especially if the drive will be just an attachable accessory. A few other tweaks and who knows. They've just not got to that step?Until there's another die shrink (it's already been shrunk from "7nm" to "6nm") then it's still unlikely to get a slimmer form factor. 5nm and 4nm are still cutting edge and in high demand for AMD's server processors and the like, so there is unlikely to be the capacity for Sony to use it for another die shrink at present
I don't think the next revision is going to be as "slim" as some people think or expect. There is a lot of cooling required in that thing and I don't think they can really reduce that footprint by much and still cool it adequately.
The revised version having no built-in optical drive has been rumoured by many people and makes so much sense. Every single PS5 leaving the production line will be identical - that is big from a manufacturing point if view.
Cannot see the Pro happening. The PS5 sits at around 15-17% lower raw power than the Series X - yet we haven't seen any situation where that has made any major difference.
If Sony want to pump out something they all but guarantee will do 4k/60 everywhere then I suspect it'll get sales. But you can still never account for poor developers who would still manage to mess things up and release something 4k/30 on it.
I have a PS5 digital upstairs in the study (and a disc version in the lounge) and it's literally that, there's just no disc drive. I prefer the digital version as it's symmetrical and takes up less space, although it's still a pretty hefty console.I assume the digital has just a big empty space where the drive normally sits?
