Didn’t realise Far Cry 6 is now on PSplus. Another one to try.
I’ve played through it twice. Really enjoyed it. Beautiful game with some great characters. Dani (female) is a great character. I am a sucker for the modern Far Cry games though I really enjoy the loop and the open worlds. Also I love exploring in helicopters!

Between this and Red Dead 2 I think my time off work is filled until Starfield drops!

Downloaded some 100+GB of FarCry6 last night only to realise a few hours in that it is the same bs recycled formula as the previous games. Performance is fine, but the visuals....well I've been spoilt by games like Horizon and Ghost/Tsushima because FC6 visuals look very rough with polygons of rocks not blending in with the sea/water. The game was the same old tired formula but what really killed it for me was the AI - the roads are lethal and drivers just crash into you, or run over your mount as soon as. If I take out an outpost and drive by moments later, it is reoccupied and respawned. Uninstalled.

I downloaded Life is Strange: True Colours to chill and relax to. The frame rate is terrible in Resolution mode, and dropping it to Performance mode makes the visuals very poor and blurry. There seems to be a ton of chromatic abberation too.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (the longest name in the history of COD...) is free on PS Plus this month, available from tomorrow.

It's a good campaign and some good zombie maps - and I also think it has the best 'regular' form of COD multiplayer from the last few years so should be worth playing! Also the benefit of COD on PlayStation is we can turn off crossplay!

This is how I feel about every game now... I loved Star Wars Jedi Survivor for the story and the combat but the visuals compared to Horizon FW were just a complete league apart.

Lots of games are disappointing on the performance front nowadays. Both H:ZD and H:FW had some flaws as games but at least they looked and ran very good.

Hell, Ragnarok is overrated into high heavens but it runs PERFECTLY. I don't think the game dropped a single frame during my playthrough. Shame it dropped a lot of other things:P

Now we get FFXVI that's an absolute mess, performance mode looks pants and has to drop its IR to 720p(!) to get 60fps in combat, a thing it hardly achieves anywhere else. Cutscenes are locked to 30fps anyways so it's super-jarring.

Quality mode, well, it's 30fps. If you're on OLED, it's unplayable. If not, it's still bad but you could maybe stomach it if you stop playing anything that runs at a proper framerate. I can't on the C2.

The geniuses at Squeenix decided to bake in RT into performance mode for some reason where games like RE4 give you individual toggles for it on both modes and even stuff like hair tech or motion blur.

The thing is, you can run RE4 in quality mode and with RT and it still holds close to 60fps bar around 2-3 places in the game, which is nothing.

XVI gets a hard pass unless they add a competent 40fps mode or fix performance.

But well, they got preorders and sales so good, people never learn:P

Funnily enough I've just finished Horizon FW and next on my list is Jed Survivor! Does it at least have a decent 60fps mode?

I literally can't play 30 FPS games on my OLED, it's horrible! The games that allow 40FPS with 120hz/VRR seem to be the best balance

Yeah I started it last week, I did get it at release as well but quickly refunded, thought I would revisit via ps extra, its not great personally, worse than FC5 I feel and the visuals look really outdated to me. Im going to uninstall as well when I next load up the console.

This is next on my list as well, I heard it got a patch the other week, no idea what it fixed, performance has been its main issue I believe, can anyone confirm?

It does have a 60fps mode, it dips in places but it runs at 60 for most of it and it plays well at 60. The main issue I found was the compromise in quality dropping to 60 but I think this one can be quite subjective, a friend of mine played the entire game and didn't mention anything to me about the quality.

I was going to wait but not bought a new game in ages, so Im going to chance it and purchase it, I have some discount to use If I purchase digital, I will try resolution mode first I think.

I've been trying to use the PS Remote Play app on Windows. Not sure what's going on but it's highly unstable. So either the software itself is crap or the PS5 Wifi is crap. I'm not sure it's the latter as my iPhone can get a strong connection in the same location.

What you think about these rumors that a PS5 Pro is about to be released this Christmas?

Seems like we barely have games developed just for PS5, never mind creating a console that is more powerful.

Is this how previous generations have released the pro versions, before the majority of games are made for the most recent hardware?

There has not been one reliable rumour about a PS5 Pro from anywhere. Read the articles out there - "scattergun journalism" - lots of no information, "my sources say" articles, where the writers are only ever remembered for the odd one they get right and not for the hundreds they got wrong.
"Slimmer" version with an external optical drive almost certainly - makes perfect sense from a production point of view. Nothing at all pointing at a Pro.

There has only been one generation where a Pro model was released and that was to counter the advent of 4k gaming - there is not going to be a sudden uptake of 8k gaming forcing a major hardware revision.

I'm not one to place bets but I genuinely think there is a 0% chance we get a PS5 Pro...

I also just don't think we need one, the PS5 is a great console and I've never felt like it needs the extra grunt! It's 3 years old this year, we're probably around half way through it's lifecycle if we assume a PS6 is launching 2026/2027.

I want to see a native PS5 Naughty Dog or Rockstar effort to demonstrate what the PS5 is actually capable of before I even contemplate a pro version of anything. This gen, especially the SX has been pretty dismal for exclusive nextgen releases.

I didn't buy a PS4 pro and won't buy a PS5 pro. If games start to be stuck with bad performance I'll do the same as last time, wait to play them at their max settings on PS6

I’ve become such a skeptic with how shady Sony run their store for leaching money in comparison to Steam.

To me I’d imagine the PS5 Pro would never target 8K, it would target the promised 4K @ 120FPS with actual high settings and RTX enabled.
