The official Ps3 thread

Reason I ask you to do this is you obviously know your stuff, so can tell me everything I need to know :p

Im just a gamer like you....Let Joebob or Jumpurs do the explaining bit as to why you might have to buy a ps3. :)

I know what i want and it is a ps3. Having owned a 360 for a short period of time, i would prefer a a ps3. I think it is all down to personal preference and what type of games you like. I love the games on ps3, even though some are already out on 360 but i alos love the exclusiveness that ps3 carries and the future potential. Oh lets not forget, i love the pad too...It fits better imo than any other.

But surely its better to get an opinion from someone in the same boat as me :)

I know roughly the technical differences and advantages/weakenesses of it, but what I dont know is what its like as a machine to play games on

Well I'd say judging from the games curruntly being released on the PS2 compared to the early titles I'd say the PS3 is gonna really stand the test of time, I can't really see the 360 elvolving much past GOW tbh, the architecture of the PS3 allows for much more scope, you look at 'Little Big Planet' the physics in that game look better than any I've seen on the 360, I think that's where were gonna see the Cell processor really shine and these are early titles, just imagine what were gonna see a year or two down the line, this is coming from someone that loves the 360.

Well, i need to be careful what i say....Remember am marked for death on this forum :p

Well, RFoM is a great game, boring from the begining but as the storylines start to unfolds you will understand why. The game play and things you see on the screen is marvellous aint much from the other console that can boast that level of simultaneous action going on on the screen - It feels life like. On top of that, it is probably the longest and biggest game on a games console to date...it took me almost a week or more to finish it,despite playing it for like 5hours average straight.

RR7 is good looking too but it is somehow not the best racing game that will make you go OMG...after a while it becomes boring imo - I dont like racing game that much...so dont hold my words as the biblical truth.

I totally agree. I read an interview on Kotaku a while back with one of the head guys at EA, who was really excited about the PS3. He said that developers originally bitched about how difficult it is to program for the PS3 compaired to the 360, just as they did with the PS2 originally, but now they have been using it for a while they see it's true potential and reccon they are currently not using anything more than about 20% of the cells potential. I'm sure I read somewhere else, probably these forums, that the 360 is using over 50%. So when you consider most people reccon the two consoles are on par comparitively for games at present, then it's easy to see that the PS3 would be a much longer term investment than a 360. Add to this the fact that theres rumour that a firmware update will allow the PS3's BD drive to read 100GB discs and the potential is immense!!!

I have a wii atm im in 2 minds to trade it in for a 360 or ps3 as the games that are coming out for the wii dont really interest me, I mainly got the wii for wii sports but after 3 months of playing that its starting to bore me :p

the price of the ps3 is huge i have owned a 360 before so would really like a change and go for the ps3 but is it really worth the extra £150+ pound
£150 for a BD player is incredible value imho. But then if you are not bothered about watching films on BD then it's probably not :|

I now what you are saying about the Wii though. I only ever turn it on if any mates come around. There don't seem to be a great many games on the horizon either which is unlike Nintendo.... oh no, wait a minute - it isn't they always bloody do it!!!

I agree mate that if people will be wanting BD movies then yes its good value but im not really interested in that, Ill just be having it as a games console only.

Thats really the only time i ever turn my wii on is when i have mates round which most of the time i meet them in the pub anyway :D

the way i see it is the 360 has been out and HD READY for nearly 16months before the PS3 and the PS3 needs the CELL due to what Sony are saying about this console will be around a lot longer than the PS2 (estimated 10years) and simply put the 360 won't be much more than 5 years. So although yes the PS3 would be a much longer investment if brought now instead of the 360 comparing like for like and features included, but in fairness all those that brought a 360 at launch have had 15months of next-gen quality games and can look forward to a new machine in a few years time which most probably will make the PS3 look antiquated in comparison - again yes that would mean the cost of 2 machines compared to 1 in the same time frame that the PS3 will exsist in but seeing my Core was only £225 at launch that leaves another £200 when the next MS console lands and be playing on something that no doubt due to progression of technology a far better machine than anything around it.

Sony want the PS3 to last 10 years but that doesnt mean that they wont be releasing their next console before then. Sony sold the original Playstation for about ten years and they plan to carry on selling the PS2 for a couple of more years yet (originally released 2000). To me spending £150 more for a console which will no doubt have twice the lifespan of the competition is good value for money.

Somone once told me NOT TO BELIEVE THE HYPE...

Hell ive got an idea base each system on what its actually offering, the catalouge and features it has and decide from that not what possible percentage of power its using.

I personally see the Japanese as a very innovative culture. Much more so than America.

Which is why my money is on Sony PS3 for making the biggest waves in the future.

decide what? I'm only passing on info I read from third party developers and not hype generated from the console manufacturers, so I wouldn't call it hype either.

as to what each is offering, I do take all of those things into account but I also buy a console for the long term and not just for the games out today. I do know what you are saying though (mainly because you have already said it a thousand times before) and yes the 360 has a bigger catalogue of games out for it at present, but it's still nice to chat about things to come on each console and where better to chat about the potential power of the PS3 than on the official PS3 thread???

I've got a bit of a problem/bug with the card reader on my 60gb.

I've just been playing with it and it's like clockwork. Put the card in, the light flashes a lot and it doesn't mount. Take it out, put it back, the light flashes a little and it mounts. Take it out, and repeat. Wondering if it's something about the card it doesn't like. It's odd it's so predictable. Too much so for it to be a hardware fault surely?
