The official Ps3 thread

Anyone know if I'm allowed to point fellow PS3 owners in the direction of the Members Market on this thread?

There is an interesting article about AMD stating that identical multicore is not the 'future' and that processor architectures closer the the PS3 may well hold the future for increased performance, but again this is all speculation, and it's going to be a few years before we see how it all pans out..
Yeah. Can't remember where I read it, but some company or other was saying that future CPU development could signal the end of the need for dedicated GPU's.

I think Microsoft only sold approx 4 million systems by March from their launch in Nov.

Sony have estimated they will do 6 million by March
To make full use of PS3 and one of its main attractions "Blu Ray" you need to have a HDTV.

Are HDTV's hugely popular or mainstream just yet?

I remember reading years ago that Intel was working on completely redesigning the mobo/cpu etc to update it all and make it run a lot more effeciently - apparantly a lot of the technology on the mobo could be done in different and better ways but it would be a huge departure from what we have now and would need some vast alterations to whatever OS woudl run on it. MS was the only sticking point though and the reason they scrapped it as I recall? No doubt someone will correct me if I'm wrong!

So it may well be that the development of anything within the PC will be held back because they have to work around the architecture which the whole format has been built upon.

Ratchet and clank :) some of the best games on the PS2.

surprised F1 CE isn't on there.

It is a very pretty game :D And fun. A car driving game where you actually do wheel to wheel racing YEY!

although it is just a port of F1 '06

I'm gonna be upgrading my HDD to 120GB soon. I can take pics whilst doing it and post as a kind of tutorial if anyone wants me to?

That would be nice for those who want to. Once question..why do you see the need to upgrade, you have barely used the 60 on it though..?

I have a 20Gb model and I just so happen to have a spare 120GB 2.5" SATA HDD, so I thought why not use it in my PS3? Once I have it I might transfer all my music over to it and store some pics and films and over stuff too (the musics over 25gig on it's own), plus I downloaded Tekken 5 and it was nearly 900Mb, so it wouldnt really take that long to fill a 20Gb HDD.

Just got my replacement 100gb 7200rpm HDD from Seagate. So now I just need to wait for the new drive to warm up as it's bloody freezing - clone it from my XPS 120gb 5400rpm drive, replace the drive in the XPS. Then take the 120gb drive, put it in the PS3 and format it, then hook both up on a PC with 2 spare SATA connections and clone the 20gb drive to the 120gb drive (I cant be bothered downloading everything again, backing up saves etc).

The only bit which may be a sticking point is getting the drive clone to work. I took my 20gb drive out from my PS3 and put it in my HDD caddy but it wouldn't recognise the drive in windows. Hopefully it will recognise it when booting up running DriveClone.

Cool. Make sure it is the same rpm as the original one though..
