The official Ps3 thread

I would imagine that they are simply making to the PS3 run cooler and maybe decreasing the cost of Cell production.

One thing is sure though, you can expect to see continual improvement of the Cell chip as I know IBM, Sony and Toshiba all plan to use it in multiple products - it's not all just about the PS3 as some people think.

Saying as this is the Offical PS3 thread, for all PS3 matters although not essientialy one that has to just PRAISE the system i was shocked to read this article that i missed during the week.

NO FORCE FEEDBACK AT ALL NOT EVEN IN WHEELS

I only thought it was the controller that didnt suport RUMBLE features but now also FFB is not supported on the PS3 console at all, FFB more like FFS.

This will not be welcome news to owners of the GT4 wheel which was very highly regarded or any other racing game inc GT5 / F1 / Colin Mcrae / Need For Speed etc

Damn...

Seems GT HD still has the wheel suport (FFB still missing???) so is it technically the PS3 has no problems doing it but legally now they are having to remove it for future titles?

GTHD LOGITEC DRIFTING
Dont laugh at the guys racing gloces, some people take their gaming rather serious...

Don't see why they would need to remove force feedback from driving games though, as force feedback != rumble.

Nice to see the G25 supported, and that's some rather nice drifiting :)

Err Davey FFB is not Rumble...

Its now aparent that BOTH will not be supported....

Xbox didnt support FFB but did support RUMBLE
X360 suports both FFB & RUMBLE and a game like Forza 2 is going to make the most out of both and the X360 wheel.

Just really going to be a bummer for potential PS3 owners and Racing Fans or if you want to look at it another way gives Microsoft a possible advantage, which might appeal to some if a small minority of gamers.

Ok fair enough their...

Still be nice to have confirmation that GTHD does include the FFB or is it only wheel suport without it?

Sony have still said its to be removed for PS3 so either its in GTHD by mistake and the machine can capably do it but because of licenscing/royalities wont.

Im not going to link but looking across many websites seems a lot are not happy about this. Mainly because the GT3 on PS3 was very good with a wheel, if anything up until that time the best game on a console with a wheel.

PS3 is then taking a step back, offering no support so eveyone that bought G25s and many other expensive wheels are truly delighted...

Nice one Sony...

Still weve got six axis to look forward too and as Sony says rumble is last gen "six axis" is next gen...

EDIT
Seems the latest F1 game doesnt support FFB, it all could be true.

Just a couple of silly questions for PS3 owners, cheers

1) Can you play the PS3 on SDTV's and Monitors as I've only heard about it beng connected through HDMI cables, nothing different (VGA/Component)

2) Can you play standard DVD's? (I assume so?)

I assume the answer is yes to both, but tbh I've not heard anything mentioned and it's to late to go searching for answers.

1) Of course you can play PS3 on SDTVs, however a VGA cable is not available. If you have a DVI-D capable monitor, then you can use that using a HDMI => DVI convertor.

2) Yes.

Theres an AV Multi socket on the back of the PS3 which looks exactly the same as the ones found on both the PS1 and PS2. I'm not positive but I would imagine you would just need a standard PS1/2 Multi AV Adapter to connect it to either scart etc!

[EDIT]

Ok, just been and looked it up. There is an AV Multi Out socket on both and the same lead/cable will work ;)

[SECOND EDIT]

Sorry, just noticed you were talking about playing it on a monitor and not on standard tv...!!! My bad :(

News via CVG

Despite initial manufacturing problems, Sony has shipped a total of 1 million PS3 consoles to North America in the first six weeks on sale.

Jack Tretton, chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment, confirmed the figures at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas yesterday, commenting: "SCEA went to great lengths to help meet demand for PS3 including airlifting systems into North America on a weekly basis"

He added, "The fact that we were able to reach the one-million mark faster than our top-selling platform, the PS2, further validates the strength of the PlayStation brand and our belief that consumers are ready to experience true high-definition gaming."

This figure beats the Xbox 360, which shipped 600,000 units in the same time at its launch, but still trails the Wii, which has already sold more than 1.8 million consoles.

Hmm the battle might about to begin....

Jack Tretton, chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment, has once again re-stated Sony's European launch plans for the PS3, confirming that its on schedule for March.

"We're equally strong in all three markets. We can't afford to sacrifice any one of them," Tretton said.

This news follows speculation that the console will suffer further delays - although such has already been dismissed by Sony's Euro boss as being "without foundation."

Even if the PS3 does indeed launch in March, the Xbox 360 will have already been on sale in PAL territories for a year and four months. There's much catching up to be done.
