I think it will be exclusive to the jap store for a good while tbh same as the golf game.

I know absolutely no japanese but figured it out in the end, abit of trial and error

God help us if it is limited to the japanese store, musta taken me 3 hours or more to dloaded the latest firmware update, gonna be fun and games with a demo thats afew hundred megs in size.

It dont take me all that long to download stuff from the JAP or US store tbh takes about as long as it does from the Europe store.

Hi there guys (and girls?) ;)

Got my PS3 today.
Ordered it from... well, better not say, the place selling it for £399 inc HDMI + Click Bluray.

After a bit of a delay, waiting for their security checks, they sent the PS3 and my games yesterday. The console via courier, and the games via snailmail.

Yep, the console arrived, but the second class post hasn't, so I have the PS3, and no games ;)

Never mind, plenty to do in the meantime.
Have set it up to my WPA wireless net, no probs there so far. Updated to 1.7.
Taking the advice of people on this forum, I have set up a UK and US account... haven't bothered with Japan.. yet.

Yeah, loads more stuff at the US store, inc demos to try, so that's good.
So far tried the F1 demo... think I'll have to buy that soon too, and purchased Tekken for £6.99 (also read about in this forum before purchase, so thanks)

Only running on a 28" Wega SDTV for now.
HDTV planned for August or so, but I can make do for now.

All working well anyway, I like the controller, the console seems totally silent, quite a lot of warm air coming out of the thing ;)

I've already downloaded pushing a gig of stuff from UK/US store, so my ISP are gunna love me.

My only niggle so far?
Well, it's because I have my PS3 connected to my SDTV via RGB (using my old PS2 cable) Has the same problem as the PS2 did. Which is, if you try to play a DVD (or in this case, I tried the click Bluray) everything looks green.
Works through composite. I remember the DVDREGIONX disk for the PS2 which disabled it. Macrovision is it? Still, I didn't really want to watch a bluray disk on an SDTV, was just interested in how it looked.

So, there's another new PS3 user...albeit limited to demos and Tekken until my games arrive, which btw. are.

Motorstorm
Resistance
RR7
Need for Speed: Carbon (yeah, well, I like those games, and enjoyed the PC version)

Think after playing that demo F1 will be next.
I just wanted to try a few more demos before purchasing anything else.
I hope they get more demos online to try soon, or are there any good PS3 magazines with playable demos on the disks?

Also looking forward to home, and getting the thing to network to my PC, so I can stream content, and copy files too and fro, without having to resort to my limited 1GB usb key.

So thanks to everybody for posting their experiences so far, helped me get started with mine. Another demo has just downloaded, so I'm off to try that.

Hope to see some of you online soon,
V1N.

PS3 ID: V1N666

Welcome to the club V1n.

Thanks very much.

Strange as it may seem too, after paying for such an expensive piece of hardware. I've downloaded the best looking demos from the UK and US store. Had a game on Tekken 5 DR (and got a popup message from Needles - my first PS3 friend ;) )

Tried some video files, and just spent more time playing on Spy Hunter and Gauntlet!

Yep, thought I'd try a few PS2 games.
No probs so far. Runs Burnout Revenge OK. Thought I'd see if the online mode works. It appeared to, signed up to EA, but all servers empty!
Then I thought I'd see if my "Namco Classics" PS2 game works.
Yep, no probs. Then rediscovered the joys of Spy Hunter and Gauntlet lol

Also just tested an old PS1 shooter I had here, called "Project X"
Works fine too.

So far, so good :)

I just wish Test Drive Unlimited would come out on PS3. The PC version is great, albeit, a bit glitchy... waiting for a patch to stop the occasional stutter.

V1N.

EDIT: Just tried a few more oldies.
Colin McRae 3 works fine
Tekken 4 works fine
Star Wars Starfighter seems fine too. (oldy, wasn't that a launch title of the PS2? Was certainly one of my first games)

Tried Defender, and got a message "This title is not currently compatible with the PS3tm System."
(Oh well, no loss to be honest, just interested in what does, and doesn't work)
Same error message with Wipeout Fusion.

Currently I have Virtua Fighter 5, Motorstorm, Rfom & Marvel Alliance. On blu-ray I have Xmen 3, A Scanner Darkly, and of course Casino Royale. Coming I have The Departed & Happy Feet.

For those wanting to import Blu-Ray films try Axel Music, A Scanner Darkly took 3 days to arrive :) and for those wanting to get onto the Jap store choose Hong Kong as it's all in english, everybody's golf demo is a must :D

Maybe a pic later, as I can't be bothered to dig the camera out.

My PS3 is really noisy :( anyone else have this problem? Was on the phone to a Sony support guy just now and he basically said "tough ****", although I have heard about a lot of people getting their units replaced for the same problem. It basically spins the fan to level 3 when just sitting idle, and it goes to the loudest setting (very distracting) when watching a film or playing a game. The root of the problem I think is that even when the fan is on full speed, it is NOT MOVING MUCH AIR at all!! I guess this is causing a vicious circle with CPU temp and fan speed, but the dumbass on the phone line was putting it down to excess heat from my DVD player and TV

Can anyone please tell me about their fan noise?

Cheers,

Suman

Silent over here. Well I do have a 360 aswel and in comparison to that it is totally silent :p

So far I have motorstorm and resistance. I really like the F1 demo, it looks amazing and it's so easy to get into. Think I might go for that one next. Apart from that, I have a handful of classic PS2 games which all work flawlessy :)

What about airflow? Is there a noticeable amount of air being shifted out of your machines?

Cheers,

Suman

I can notice an obvious amount of hot air being pushed out the side when Folding.

Before i placed mine vertically i could feel a lot of hot air coming out of the sides of the PS3, the fan could be heard but is far quieter than my Water cooled PC and my Sky+ box. Now its vertical the fan only really speeds up to max when folding, gaming for long sessions it was fairly quiet, but it didnt seem to shift as much heat standing up.

the heatsink seems to be a good design , the case (outside) gets pretty hot but i havent heard of any overheating and breaking or anything like that

ours isnt even "very loud" when the fans are on full ,noisy but still quieter than my pc and 360 with fans and drives spinning

I might try this. Mine is horizontal and pushes out a lot of heat and the fans normally kick in on low speed after 15 mins regardless of which, game or folding.

Mine is definitely completely silent even after a night of folding (can hear a sparrow or something over a block away with PS3 continueing to fold)

With out a doubt mine is deathly silent, horizontally laid out just at the base of the tv
