Japan price = £165.80 (69% more in the UK)
US price = £203.05 (37% more in the UK)
Playstation 3 (60GB)
Japan price = £250 (70% more in the UK)
US price = £304 (40% more in the UK)
Wii
Japan price = £104.17 (73% more in the UK)
US price = £126.90 (42% more in the UK)
as you can see Sony is no more ripping us UK peoples off than nintendo have done, and are infact very similar to the XBOX360 % difference in pricing over the terretories. and as i stated in the thread, its because the US pricing you see is ignoring GST and state taxation, and fails to consider the localisation/warranty support/retail margin expectation as set in the UK compared to the US....
Sony's management = blinkered i believe yes. can they turn it around? time will tell!
Noooooo, I'm sure Sony thought it would be selling out everywhere at launch. I must admit that I did actually think to myself that sales would be slow because of the price but that Sony would lower the price after a similar time as they did with the PS3 and it would maybe take off big time for Xmas 2007. After reading about how the production costs are so much higher and Sony wont be able to lower production costs for the forseable future though - things aint looking good!Mr Latte said:

Microsoft had stated ages ago that the PS3 is where the xbox1 was in terms of being able to cut manufactor costs over a period of time. Its effectively swapped around this time with the 360 being able to lower manufactor costs very early on and i think they are already at that point where as the old xbox1 never made a profit on its hardware till year 4 in its cycle. This time its round the other way which MS said is now to their advantage as they will always be the cheaper option throughout the lifespan of the 360 against the PS3
I read it's just to solve the progressive display issues for PS1/PS2 games so I haven't bothered yet.ElRazur said:

Fair dos on the US price, but the Japanese version doesn't include Wii Sports as ours does, so the pricing of the Jap Wii is a little skewed in comparison.
I can't understand why it's brought up about the PS3 being a rip off in EU/UK - when has that ever not been the case? I'd be more miffed at having to wait 6 months later than the rest of the world.

But there's an easy way around this, just buy something from another state, as long as the company you buy from has no presence in your state, you don't get charged tax. I could quite easily order a PS3 for rrp, pay about $10 for 3 day shipping and have it a lot cheaper than the UK rrp. Infact I priced up a PS3 60gig, two games and and extra controller for about the same as the UK PS3 price.
I'm tempted to order but think I'll spend the money elsewhere.
