The official Ps3 thread

Well if Blu Ray fails to help sell the PS3 thats what might cause Sony Problems
I think their relying on the whole value more than a console scanario and it is good value but do people need or really care for Blu Ray right now.

Japan USA Europe could be all three terrorities that after the initial launch and Sony Fanbase purchase their systems the sales begin to slow way down because of lack of new exciting content or more to the point PS3 own exclusives...

I cant believe that Sony had the balls to hype the machine so much and come to the table with no big Franchise at the ready. GT-HD as a demo is a MAJOR blow to the system imo, over two years ago they talked of this and Sony Fans get a demo, thats bad particulary as the GT5 will be more than likely a Winter 2008 release.

I also feel we havnt seen the full urge for the 360 or Wii yet because both of those systems have big name titles due within the Spring/Summer and have the benifit of the lower price points. Not being anti Sony just it seems they are facing really tough competition and dont seem to have the amunition to back their own fight as well.

Consumers will make up their own mind now that the guessing will be over and its plain to see what each system has to offer and what it costs.

Lets not forget both Microsoft and Nintendo could come out with new value bundles and im sure they might have thier own announcements and updates for their online services for the Spring, they arnt going to sit still for sure...

Going to be an interesting year for gamers...

A recent report published by market research group Research and Markets (the redundancy gives us a headache too) has chosen Sony's PS3 as the winner of the next-generation console wars. The report, titled The Transforming Global Video Games Market: The Emergence of Next Generation Gaming, deals primarily with the impact of next-generation consoles on the online games sector.

Based on its extensive analysis of the current growth trends in the industry, Research and Markets expects Sony's PlayStation 3 to come out on top in the next-generation console war. The group expects the PS3 to have an installed user base of around 75 million globally by the year 2010. While the study notes that both Sony and Nintendo offer unique products, Research and Markets still felt that Sony's superior technology would give them the edge over the competition.

Although the group designated Sony as the future market leader this gen, they gave very little in the way of reasoning to back up this claim. The primary focus of the study was analyzing the impact of next-generation consoles on the online games sector, rather than determining the factors which might lead to dominance in the next-generation console market.

I wouldn't trust any report from a market research company called Research and Markets, never mind that that have "very little in the way of reasoning to back up this claim". LOL, just LOL!

About a month ago any PS3 related thread on this forum gained a 360 heavy argument with only one or two people speaking up for the PS3. Today though, there were two PS3 threads which popped up and quickly gained momentum. The unusual thing was that there were a fairly decent number of people arguing for the PS3 - maybe even an equal share as of that against!

It just opened my eyes a bit as I thought this forum was occupied by MS sycophants, whereas there are a lot of people waiting for a PS3 who just never stood up to be counted earlier.

I'm starting to think that the PS3 wont do that bad in the UK, as people have failed to take into account the chav factor. We all know how the scallies like to have the very latest things like Playstation etc even if they cant afford it and need to borrow bingo money from their mam's purse. Having a £425 PS3 will definately give you more respect than buying a cheaper 360, innit guy!

Bothered, face, bothered?

Ahh right i take it you havnt seen the whole thread full of people talking in the "im done with PS3" Most i read are still peeved not with the machine or so much its price its Sonys lack of exclusives or system selling Titles. Some decent games yeah but most of the best ones are multiformat titles. Actually without 3rd party Sony would be knee deep in it.

Motorstorm aint no Gran Turismo or Metal Gear, really is it?

Lets look at this past weeks news and can you remind us why the PS3 is going to do so well again, genuine concern here. I dont for one minute think it will have a problem at launch its after the intial launch sales im still concerned over...

This weeks evidence

Not one PS3 game in the JAP top 10, and OMG even GOW manages that...
GRAW 2 announced as being delayed for PS3
Other titles expected to be delayed too
UT 2007 now also X360 yet another Major possible exclusive lost
PS3 is available in abundance in the USA demand is below expected
PS3 in Japan being reduced by 20% to try and help retaillers shift units

Im sorry Joebob your not convincing me so easily...

I've no doubt the PS3 will sell out to begin with but they WILL be readily available very soon after that and will be stuck on the shelves forcing retailers to cut the price themselves and chuck in free games/movies.

Yes, all the chavs, gadget freaks and rich kids will get one on release (plus some normal people, lol) but Europe will be the same as US and Japan, unsold stock everywhere soon after.

WTF... you really can't resist popping up to tell me how the PS3 is going to fail because it doesn't have AAA titles and the price is too high can you? Did I mention anything about this is the above post? NO!

I merely said I have noticed that I noticed a lot more people speaking out for the PS3 than there was a month ago and that I think Chavs will buy it!!!

Every bleeding post which anyone puts on this forum goes as follows:-

Anon:"Anyone know when the PS3 is coming out?"

Mr. Latte:"You're not going to convince me to buy one as there's no AAA titles and it's too expensive and has no exclusives"

Joebob:"Has the latest firmware come out for the PS3 yet?"

Mr. Latte:"You're not going to convince me to buy one as there's no AAA titles and it's too expensive and has no exclusives"

An over exageration I know, but you get the point! We've heard it all before, you've said it all before... Change the bleeding record!!!

I think they should have just added a blu-ray addon later, like microsoft did with the xbox 360 hd-dvd. That way, the expense and problems with blu-ray would not be causing so much doubt within the sony fan base. I mean, take away the blu-ray drive, and the overall cost of the console would go down; making it optional later on if people wanted to buy it. Yet, people are forced to have it, making the console cost more and cause more problems...

mr latte brings up valid points but the majority of us dont care if we have to wait a bit for the good games to come , when they do come it will be

ps2 had an awful awful release lineup , didnt stop it destroying the dreamcast wich people seem to think was "amazing" :/

at the end of the day well have to wait and see , but reading the same theory's about what will happen to the ps3 over and over again is annoying.

if the games are taking advantage of blu ray im glad they included it :) ,

microsoft cant really take advantage of the HD drive for games as there will be a lot of gamers who dont own one left unhappy.

what i was trying to say is console gaming is unpredictable therefore people making stupid statements about how one or the other will fail/go bankrupt etc are just silly at this moment in time

the dreamcast had great games , similar hardware to ps2 (some say it was a better machine ? ) why did it fail :(

Joebob

I think youll find my reply was aimed at your opinion that the PS3 might actually do well, you were confronted with weekly news that shows the current state of the PS3 in already launched terrorities and announcements made regards games, delays and now another non exclusive bomb shell.

Sorry i warrant that as reason to ask are you sure your eyes really are open?
Your saying one thing im questioning it with available information, thats all.

Now to confront your last post...

Last i checked i still had my pre order available, if F1 or Motorstorm aint great i will cancel for the time being.
Youve noticed more talk regards PS3 i wonder if thats to do with yesterdays/todays offical announcement?

Why should i change the record, you bleedin fanboys chime on plenty about how great Sony are when just about every bit of evidence shows a company on the verge of stumbling further into problems and still continue to be the masters of spin and BS.

If they would at least get off their asses and deliver a game like GT which they promised over two years ago but OMG no FFS wont be around till more than likely 2008 thats making us lot out to be a pack of dopey ***ts if they think were going to continually keep supporting them. Some of you may not mind spending £400+ on a console and to wait about another year for the BIG games to appear but quite frankly thier will be plenty of other good games available on other platforms worth getting than investing in a Blu Ray player with some decent 360 games and the odd exclusive.

Still i do love your excitment and admiration, credit you all that

serious question

are people who have splashed the cash not at all worried that microsoft are already talking of a new console version because of the lack of storage ?

i keep seeing and hearing reports of devs struggling to compress games onto a single dvd. both on PC and consoles.

is it the reason gears of war is so short ?

:p

Yes, that is one thing Sony will have an advantage with. But whether it remains in favour of game use or purely for movies is another thing(I haven't heard any info on this).

Games have been available on multiple discs for decades, since floppies so it never stopped anyone in thinking ahh we just need to fit everything onto one disc.

Good programming is though required so you havnt got contineous disc swapping.

Microsoft see the future not in an optical format even HD-DVD for instance but game downloads so im guessing their concern is in possibly allowing for larger HDD to attach to the X360 or networking your 360 games or Marketplace content from a PC with Vista and the upcoming Live Anywhere.

Its not a theory it was answers by examples of the current situation, thats all evidence to the contrary of a sucessfull really well recieved system.

Dont blame me on what the facts are, im only pointing them out guys...

Ive yet to see a games list in this thread that shows reasons for why the PS3 will maintain its sales over the period of the year, no doubt Spring releases will help it in all terrorities but what else is coming this year for sure thats exclusives?

Worth £425 for how many exclusive games..... you decide!
News on delays strikes me as bad news for a system im about to purchase.
