Urgh, in some ways I think this actually feels worse than getting thumped as it was just so damn close. But for the silly overthrow at the end we should have won that. Magnificent composure by Foley though given his inability to buy a converted kick in the first half. That was truly a brilliant performance by Scotland, more attacking than Australia for most of it, didn't have the recent issues with a terrible first half giving the other side a lead and coped with being a man down somewhat harshly well.

Well done to Australia, just squeaked through but it was a hell of a game. If the All Blacks play like they did last night though then the Cup is theirs to lose.

Should have been a penalty for late hit on Hogg, and that last penalty definitely came back off Phipps, who then appealed for it.

Utterly robbed, Joubert bottled it at the last minute. Sick for Scotland

You're right in that I don't think Joubert was kind to Scotland, Australia seemed to get more of the calls going their way but equally a lot of the "smaller" nations have similar complaints. However that could very well be my myopia blinding me to what was fair and more importantly Scotland really lost the game with that last line out so blaming the ref is almost always a bad way to go, we shouldn't have been relying on him getting it all right and if we'd controlled it better there we wouldn't have had to.

Not certain which way the decision would have gone but there was no reason not to go to the TMO. Odd decision.

How so? It was impossible for Joubert to see who touched it last before rebounding into Scottish arms.

Had it come off Scottish hands, then a penalty was the correct decision.

But looking at it again shows that it came off Australian hands, and therefore the correct decision was a scrum to Australia for Accidental offside.

EDIT: Ignore me, completly missed the 'not' in your sentence... :o

The real shame is that although Scotland can play good rugby, based on this World cup, cue the Six nations next year, and it will be back to the same inconsistent performances.

I don't understand Rugby at the best of times, but on the BBC it indicates he couldn't refer the decision:

BBC said:
But all the talk will be of Joubert's late decision and later behaviour, even if the laws of the game meant he could not ask for assistance from the television match official for the fateful penalty.

Seems silly that a referee is unable to consult at such a pivotal point.
