*** The Official Rugby World Cup 2015 Thread ***

What a great game. Carter was so driven, very impressive. McCaw was everywhere, after his sabbatical I thought he was past it but that was a masterclass.

Australia were great in the second half, about the best game Beale has had in years.

I gotta say I love Beuaden Barrett, he is so skillful and damn fast with it. Ben Smith is up there with Conrad as the best decision maker in rugby, dumn tip tackle aside of course.

Brilliant game and best team won.

Well done to New Zealand they were the best team in the World Cup but Australia did their best to make it exciting in the second half after just not getting started in the first. Both teams a credit and a good end to what has been a very enjoyable RWC overall.

Also well done to South Africa for their third place and Argentina for their good showing to get fourth.

I'm still hoping that there is an investigation into what happened in the Scotland - Australia match for whatever trouble was caused there and the use of the TMO is looked at so it can be used in more situations if appropriate (and possibly that would mean it is not for the director to put up replays on the big screen when they're not asked for). Overall pretty happy and impressed by what has happened in the Tournament but I don't want to see those points forgotten about either as it would be a shame to miss an opportunity to make things even better.

A terrifically exciting game, particularly for a final. Australia got trampled early on but then got right back in it and it was definitely 'squeaky bum time' when the yellow card came out (to borrow a phrase from a different sport).

I imagine there will be some very sore heads at work tomorrow morning :)

So many of this team won't be around for the next World Cup, really been spoilt for talent with this generation of players.

Edit: Prince Henry of Wales?

Henry is his actual name so that's his official title.

I was lucky enough to go yesterday, amazing experience. I'm especially jealous of my wife getting to see her team win the World Cup, something I will likely never get to see in any sport as an Englishman!

not a huge rugby fan but love watching the world cup

this time was no different.

seen some great games and its always good to see people can still be sporting and still have the right attitudes !

makes me wonder why arent football refs mic'd up. wouldnt take away from 'the flow of the game' like people say replays will , but might add a bit of respect back into the game... after watching the footy every week its always amazing hearing these man mountain rugby players say things like ''sorry sir'' to the ref. even when thats the way it should be !

the fans usually always doing themselves justice too

Best game I can remember for a long time. Kiwi's never looked like they were going to lose it but massive credit to Australia for pushing them so far.

Nice gesture from SBW to give his medal to the poor lad that got smashed by security. A night he will never forget for many reasons...

Congratulations All Blacks.

Great final but someone really should tell the southern hemisphere that they are supposed to stick the ball up their jumper in a final ;), It really was refreshing to see two teams trying to win it rather than not lose it.

A great and memorable world cup for many reasons and was chuffed to see how England got behind the competition and bought tickets and helped fill grounds with noise and support :)

Roll on Japan!

Breaking news now,

Burgess leaving Bath with immediate effect and on his way back to the Rabbitohs

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/34732141

Pity really, I think he came to Union a year to late to prepare and the wrangling over his position didn't help. I also think him wrongly receiving flak from fat ex-players hasn't helped.

Sad really and leaves a slightly bitter taste in the mouth, also hammers another nail into coffin of England's abysmal campaign.

Agree totally mate, think he has been treated terribly by the England management. His League stats are amazing and yet he has been treated like crap and been made a scape goat for our pathetic performance.

I bet Russell Crowe is happy though...

Really pleased he is coming back to League. For Burgess I'm fairly sure it was for the money and the chance to play in a major international tournament and arena. However, the more cynical rugby league fan in me believes that the whole thing was orchestrated by the RFU to take a cheap shot at League and then its all backfired on them. Too cynical? Perhaps. But its what I believe.

League fan here, I think you may be right to some extent, having played both codes I can confirm that union fans/players behave rather childish and are petty towards league. Its almost as if the entire existence of RL is a hard pill to swallow for them even to this day. Oh well, glad to see Sam returning home. :)

To add a bit of balance to that statement somewhat, I'm pretty sure there is a fair bit of childishness from League to Union too! Neither side are guilt free.

Think Clive Woodward summarised it best, total embarrassment for RFU...

Also just noticed we don't seem to have threads for the 2015-16 Rugby Premiership or European Challenge competitions?

Lancaster's gone ffs.

Continuity was what we needed IMO, obviously with a few changes, but not that big.

Disagree completely, he does not have the ability or nouse to take England to the level they need to be at. He took England at a low point, brought soom much needed belief back to fans and players alike but then plateaued with no obvious idea how to move up a level.

Being a "nice" bloke is not enough at the top end of a results driven business and everyone of his teams has "bottled it" when real pressure came on. I thank him for the obvious hard work he has done but it's now time to get in a Coach and a setup that has the experience and skills to get England into the top 3 in the world where they really should be with the investment and structures they have. I really hope the RFU realise that it's time to suck it up and get our first foreign Head Coach.

It's 4 years and counting to the next world cup the work for that has to begin now and needs to be far more organised and settled than the last regime.

I'm just surprised he left by mutual consent and didn't wait to get his payoff

For all his faults a lack of honour isn't one of them.

Gotta agree with TheMightyTen here, I really like SL as a person and the virtues he has brought to the team, but I don't think he has what it takes to compete at top levels...

Is it too much to ask to bring in coaches with a track record at an international level? For all the money that the RFU has, they seem to be very keen on bringing in less experienced coaches and having them learn on the job.
