I used cases until the 2nd disintegrated and have been waiting over a year for the S10+ to finally break so I can replace it. But the front screen is bulletproof despite many drops. Best phone I ever had, but it's long past time to replace.

At 5% he should still be able to connect it to a PC and transfer whatever he needs, assuming it's not already saved elsewhere.

Just I wouldn't be wasting time/money trying to fix a 3.5 year old phone's battery.
 
Sorry, meant 5% update progress, just sat there. Did a cache partition wipe, might have helped, its going slowly, very slowly. Says 1hr to complete!
Will get a new phone, maybe the S24u in black friday deals, who knows. This one is still going strong.

He's not talking about battery level, the update is stuck applying at 5%

What have you tried?

If you can enter recovery mode try clearing the cache. You may also be able to mount the storage and recover data before performing a reset.

I;ve done the recovery and cleared the cache and its going really slow, I'll leave it going and hopefully it completes lol
