**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S22 Family Thread ****

So anyone who has their phone already able to confirm Superfast Charging 2.0 is displayed on the phone screen when the Spigen 45w PPS charger is connected? I've seen comments now saying they cannot get it to work with the Spigen which only shows "Super Fast Charging" without the 2.0 at the end.

Comments from where?

Youtube comment threads. Someone bought that exact Spigen and trie to used it on their S22 Ultra with the bundled cable and it only showed Super Fast Charging which is 25W, the 2.0 at the end denotes 45W.

I think ultimately for Samsung phones 45W is pointless expense for saving around 7 minutes. On Samsung phones the charge rate drops to a woeful 10W or less once you get above 80% charged anyway which is why the time in total between 25W and 45W is so small. Phones that use dual battery cells that are smaller, can charge much much faster whilst generating less heat.

I have been testing the redmagic 7's 65W charging capabilities this weekend and found that whilst it starts off at around 60W from 1%, soon as you get past 5% charged the rate drops to 50W and then at over 80% it's just under 30W. At 90%+ it still stays above 20W though which is considerably faster charging than any other USB-IF standards compliant phone. Samsung seem to have been playing it safe as far as single battery cells are concerned ever since the Note 7 and go way down low when charging towards 100%. For ref the 4500mAh battery in the redmagic 7 charges to 100% in 30 minutes exactly and it is USB-PD 3.0 PPS.

I've gotten two separate consignments too from EE via DPD as well. Bit confused about it because I thought the buds you had to contact Samsung after you get the phone like in the past.

Odd.. am abit confused then why there's two consignments heading my way for tomorrow. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

Agreed that is super annoying. Would a 3rd party camera app help at all, I wonder?

I read this review and the night time shot of the guy waving was pretty bad. A fair rating overall, but so annoying that we can't get the P50 Pro with the full Google service.

Quite dissapointing results from DXO, would have though it would have been ahead of the iPhone given some of the YouTube reviews I've seen.

Must say I've not been massively impressed with the Pixel 6 Pro either to be honest camera wise, good but HDR OTT

I suppose those are scenarios if you leave the camera on default auto settings and don't tweak them and then have the app to remember camera settings used as by default at each run the settings will revert again.

I've personally not seen any major issues low light or daytime with the S20 camera but I always use manual or tweaked settings in the auto mode, so when in auto always touch an area I want exposed in the mid-range of the EV scale then adjust the slider slightly lower than needed. HDR is set to auto as there is no fixed on mode any more, so HDR covers the rest of the frame whilst my chosen area is exposed as desired.

Some might say this is an extra step that takes time, sure, but it's not even a second of time really once you have a routine going and it is second nature.

Also keep in mind that the S22 cameras are new on a new ISP, there have not even been any updates yet which I am 90%+ confident will make things even better, just as they did back with the S20 and S21 series a year later of multiple updates in that time. The hardware is certainly there it seems, it is the software that needs to go through the same optimisation stages that the previous phones went through.

Ahh this explains it then, I have the nubia 65W PPS charger and that cable that comes with the REDMAGIC7 is gonna be e marked no doubt although the cable itself is completely plain. I guess it makes sense since after 45W you're falling into the standards compliant territory so the cable has to be fully compliant.

Assuming it is not, I guess a cable like this is what is needed: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Powerline-Charger-Charging-MacBook-black/dp/B086DMNK8R/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1D4SPVZNG0NJH&keywords=anker+flow+2+cable&qid=1645383489&sprefix=anker+flow+2+cable,aps,54&sr=8-3

In usual typical form, the fastest cables for charging are the slowest for data transfer..

That is the cable i got. for usb c to usb c.

and that one for usbc to lightning.

Ok so the 45w spigen charger isn't any good on its own without a new cable? I assume it will still do the 25w charge if so that should be enough based on the fact there's only a couple of mins difference and 45w may put more ware on the battery?

If all goes well there'll be a definitive answer tomorrow. And if it doesn't work then Samsung have screwed it up as it charges a laptop @ over 40W.

It won't put more wear on the battery, not to anything that can be measured anyway as Samsung have restricted the rates at each charged capacity to be much slower than any other Android flagship phone, but yes a new cable is needed it seems. If you have a charger from a previous Galaxy phone like from the S20 and up, then you already have everything you need to use 25W though. If you do not, then the Spigen is all you'd need.

There's nothing about the cable you linked that makes it more suitable than the spigen cable supplied with the Spigen 45w PPS charger.

The only difference being one can do 60W and the other 100W. Both well in excess of 45W target here.

No. The Pixel 6 Pro takes that crown.

Don't think it can really be called a flagship though can it in comparison to the others? :p

Fast charging and Fast data.

Fast data usually means shorter cable. That's the trade off.

Cheaper but not as fast, still way faster than USB 2...

That's what I mean, it's not even 1 metre in length so largely unusable for those who trail a cable from a wall socket up to their desktop or night stand etc. Fine for someone connecting to a Macbook or monitor with a full speed port capable of those rates though.

There are fast 2m 100W 20Gbps cables. You just have to pay more.

Nearly did a massive whoopsie for the day one release delivery, I just remembered that DPD / EE won't deliver unless the person and their photo ID are present. Way back when I got my S10+ from EE, I had someone else try to accept the delivery and present my ID and they refused the delivery.

DPD normally deliver around 2PM here, I'll be at work. Lucky that I was able to redirect to a local DPD point via the tracking text link.
