*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

No surprise they've leaked the release date info just as HTC are about to announce their new phone tomorrow. Means people will probably wait.

Let this year's battle between the smartphones commence!

March 14th isn't far away!

Samsung will bring it on no doubt!

If the design isn't great that I'm thinking I might just keep the i9305 and sell the GS4. It's setup up how I want it and runs fast+smooth

As above it will be technically brilliant, look like a rock and feel like a kinder egg toy lol

Still, I'm intrigued please get the design right.

Yes, and resembling a small rock. :(

LOL! Maybe Samsung's designers might step it up and take their design cues from something else this time around like a leaf or something :D

Quad core at this time is all you need. I can't see anyone using 8 cores, it's overkill. The S3 LTE is a nice peace of kit and is extremely fast so I get where you're coming from.

I don't see it being a huge amount better than the m7/one, just like the GS 3 isn't a huge amount better than the one S/X, essentially the GS 3 is just a more complete package than both i.e. SD slot, removable battery. IMO the one XL and X+ (despite using tegra 3) are the better phones overall. It will just come down to personal preference in the end again. Unless Samsung pull of a real stunner and htc make a complete and utter mess like the GS 2 VS sensation :p :o

I just hope they improve the design and touchwiz otherwise it is going to be an instant no no again :( CPU/GPU raw performance is pointless now especially with JB running on the phones.

Of course it will still sell way more than the htc flagship etc. Samsung's brain washing marketing/advertising is too good now, apple good! :p :D

It's only got 4 usable cores ...and a powerVR SGX544MP3, no idea why tech blogs keep referencing a mali GPU.
Samsung will probably use a Exynos 5 "quad" (dual core) for the SGS4. Exynos 5 "octa" (and Tegra 4) are competing against 7W Intel core processors, like the i3-3229Y.

Gaming?

The Verge have checked with various sources and have confirmed the announcement as well: http://www.theverge.com/2013/2/18/4...itely-will-be-announced-on-march-14th-sources

Galaxy S IV 'definitely' will be announced on March 14th: sources
Expect it to take design cues from the Galaxy Note 8.0, which doesn't look like the leaks

Earlier today, mobile-review's Eldar Murtazin suggested on Twitter that March 14th would see a "big announcement," implying that it would cause HTC to miss sales estimates on the One that is widely expected to be announced tomorrow. Murtazin made no mention of Samsung or the next-gen Galaxy S, but SamMobile — a site well-known for its Samsung leaks — followed shortly thereafter claiming that the tweet was indeed a veiled reference to the Galaxy S IV, allegedly tied to an event in New York City.

The Verge has now confirmed with sources familiar with Samsung's plans that March 14th is "definitely" the day that the Korean giant plans on revealing one or more new devices, one of which is presumed to be the Galaxy S IV. As SamMobile says, we are also hearing that the event will be in the US, though it's unclear whether carrier availability will be announced at that time.

Thanks for clearing that up Sarge, kinda like Tegra 3 then? The other cores don't do anything, that makes sense.

The Exynos Octa 5 switches between low and high powered sets of cores, but most things I've read suggest it can use both sets at once if needed, though probably for different tasks.

Looking forward to see what Samsung produce. I hope they significantly change design direction. Or at the very least get rid of that awful glossy plastic finish... ew!

Possibly, I think these early devices will just run migration mode first. Full MP needs to be spot on to avoid any potential problems, you could totally wreck battery life.

Migration: Only one CPU cluster can be active at once. (low power cortex A7 or high power cortex A15).
Full MP: Both clusters can be active at once. (The scheduler picks the most suitable core cluster for each individual task load)

Say your running Sunspider and listening to tunein radio.

In migration everything switches to the cortex A15 cluster while sunspider runs then switches back to the A7 cluster when load drops.
For full MP mode tunein continues on the A7 cluster while sunspider runs on the A15 cluster, switching back to the low power cluster when complete.

Full MP is potentially better with less interconnect switching and light loads always running on the A7 cluster, but more risky as you could end up loading both clusters.
Migration is simpler to implement and two A15s are more than powerful enough for every multitasking scenario.

Both modes are completely different to Tegra 3/4, the interconnect between the two CPU clusters is there the magic happens.
