I think there is still a lot of hype, I guess a lot of S3 owners are still mid contract so they're not so worried!

This will be my first android phone, and first fully touch screen phone bar my old Samsung Omnia i900 I had a few years back, which wasn't great

So it's something completely different for me and pretty exciting really

I agree but I think that is because everyone expected the S3 around late February / early March time and when it didn't come things just kept building up and the hype got massive until they did the release show in May.

People I know are still buying S3's and being blown away by them so maybe the slight lack of hype is helping Samsung clear S3's.

Chances are the 14th is simply the announcement, with phones available at a later date. That date may vary country to country, but I wouldn't expect to see any phones shipping before April.

iPad 3: Quad Core 543 @ 250MHz = 32 GFlops

Octa: Triple Core 544 @ 533MHz = 51.1 GFlops

iPad 4: Quad Core 554 @ 300MHz = 71.6 GFlops

The Octa is about 35% faster than the iPad 3 but 30% slower than the iPad 4.

The 554 gets its awesome performance from a doubling of the shader cores over the previous generation.

Its a shame the Octa didn't get the 554 but I am sure it will be due to space constraints on the die. Don't forget they have to squeeze 4x A15's, 4x 7's and the GPU on to the chip!

It would be more appropriate to compare to the iPhone 5 GPU which it should be faster than by more than 60% (325mhz vs 533mhz). It should handily be the fastest GPU in a phone till the Tegra 4 devices show up or if Apple uses rogue in the next iPhone.

The iPhone 5 GPU is about the same speed as the iPad 3, so performance will be more like 30-40% greater with the Octa. Still great though.

The iPhone 5 GPU is almost identical to the Octa GPU (544 has direct X 10 features that the 543 lacks). The clock speed difference is exactly 64% (533mhz vs 325mhz). Tests like GLbench tend to scale fairly linearly with clock speed and unit count so I'd expect to see ~60% improvement in performance.

It should be great either way and nothing to be disappointed over.

I think that's also down to just how good the S3 is. When I had my S2 there was a lot wrong with it and the S3 corrected all the points I didn't like.
Now I have a phone which doesn't leave me feeling like I'm being hard done by my interest in the S4 is minimal.
Pretty sure I'm not the only person to feel like this.

It's the same with me and the S3 LTE. It's soo complete hardware+software wise. It's just the design that leaves me wanting more.

If the S4 isn't a major step forward in design and aesthetics then my upgrade will get sold on.
