*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

Damn, sorry to hear about that Jono! Are you going for another replacement, or a different phone?

I don't know. Fed up of getting dodgy ones now. Although i suspect most or all are plagued with this red tint thing but some arent too sensitive to it.

This new one has the best uniformity but when it vibrates it buzzes horribly! ARGHH. Il have a think over the weekend but i think i will just cancel it under DSR/phones 4 U's seven day policy.

I might try a HTC One if i can get a good deal. What other phones are out soon though?

TBH, I think HTC could have got away with keeping the quick charge on as the one S, XL, X etc. haven't had any problems with their batteries failing, at least not yet...

The HOS + HOX battery are easily accessible compared to the sandwich design of the ONE where the battery is directly under the screen and then the SoC + Modems etc are in the middle on top of the battery.

iFixit gave the One a 1/10 (pun intended) repairability score lol.

Yup pretty much! Pretty damn impressive that! iphone 5 display PE is also very impressive, it really has a gorgeous screen, the one and only thing, which I really love about iphone 5 :p

I just knew it :p

iPhone screen is impressive yes - it uses in cell touch to reduce power iirc

hi, anyone notice the auto brightness aint as bright as the s3 , when its set at auto also

i like to have it on auto with slide all the way up, seems the S3 is always brighter though

From what I understand the One and S4 are really close in terms of performance and features, but the lack of SD card made me choose the samsung. If it means getting a decent faultless screen though, I'll go with HTC!

Not sure about upcoming phones, as I was planning to be sticking with the S4

:D :p

That is some high praise coming from you! It is a cracking screen though.

As I have always said, I like the hardware used in iphones but I don't like the company and software :p

Not sure if to believe them for that as Brian tweeted about that saying he had no problems opening his one, something like "I didn't have to destroy my one to get access to the inside", so hard to tell what to believe, if it was some average person saying that then I wouldn't trust them but you don't doubt Brian! :p :D

Yeah, same as the 920 and nexus 4 as well iirc??? Haven't quite a few people said that the screen doesn't seem as responsive to touch due to that?

I really hope the X phone or/and M4 use that SAMOLED panel!

GS 4 should be quite a bit brighter than the GS 3.

The brightness iirc goes up much higher when left on auto.

It is 25 percent brighter (and up to 68 percent brighter with Automatic Brightness)

Perhaps your screen is throttling??? Seems to be a common problem, although it will depend entirely on the temperature of your room/area etc.

have you seen the pictures on ifixit - :p

Does look extremely tricky.

Oh yes, the arrangement of the components doesn't look good at all and would certainly make it difficult to replace the battery, I was just referring to their part about getting access to the inside:

Very, very difficult (possibly impossible?) to open the device without damaging the rear case. This makes every component extremely difficult to replace.

And then when you read Brian's tweets, it makes you wonder:

Plus, isn't there supposed to be screws or something underneath the speaker covers (which can be easily removed since they are only glued to the main body), which makes things easier??

Can't say that it bothers me at all really (would be a bit concerned if the stuff isn't protected well and secured but it looks fine there) as chances are if I was to encounter an issue with the phone (even with my S or GS 4 [unless it was a battery issue, in which case no problems :p]), I would just send it of for repair.

Also, in Phones4U today when we had 4 S4 in a line testing the screens ( lol) all of them had wildly different brightness when set to the maximum!

It is!. You would not believe the difference between all 4 screens in terms of tints, uniformity and brightness. : /

Hahah, you're really swaying me towards the HTC now! Giving Samsung one chance to redeem themselves... :)

To be honest my faith in Samsung is seriously faultering. I went through a huge rigmarole with trying to buy a Samsung tv earlier this year. I couldnt get one without terrible clouding all over the screen. It really was awful. I just gave up and didnt buy a tv in the end.

Now i have the same problem with the screen on this phone ( and now a horrible buzz when it vibrates...).

I guess i am just fussy but when i am paying a lot of money for tech, i want it to work properly. I dont want to buy a phone because it has the best screen, only for the screens to be broken.

I think i will cancel this and call Three ( who i have a sim only contract with at the moment) and see if they can do me any sort of a deal on a HTC ONE.

Unfortunately that's a trait of the technology itself, all LCD's suffer from clouding/backlight bleeding to some extent, some worse than others :p

Hi, got the s4 today, also have a s3, i used to have s3 on auto brightness ticked and slide on full, and it worked well and screen was vivid

i tried same on s4 and screen is very dim, i got both side by side and s3 is brighter :(

Yep, they vary in brightness HUGELY!

Comparing both my S3 and S4 right now i actually think my S3 is both brighter, sharper and just generally better....

that's exactly what i am seeing, bit diss pointed guess they could fix that on software update ,

i don't like to have it on manual as prefer it to adjust itself in different conditions

Two Q's

1. With the speaker being on the back of the S4. What is the volume like when using the phone as a Sat/Nav whilst driving, if the phone is mounted on a side window (towards the front of the window) ?
I'm using a iPhone 4 at the moment, with the speaker at the bottom of the phone (portrait orientation).

2. If I bought the White version (black vs white stock levels), how easy is it the replace the front panel/cover at the later date and fit a different colour ?
More bother than it's worth (invalidating the warranty etc) or fairly easy ?

Thanks
