*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S6/Edge Thread ***

Look what arrived today. Pretty impressive service from the Samsung store seeing as I ordered it at 1am in the early hours of Sunday morning!
I won't get round to testing it until tomorrow though.

I've got pretty realistic expectations on what I'm getting. It's just a toe dip into VR. I realise that are limitations to what the screen resolution can deliver.

For £80 , i'm not sure you can fully expect a totally immersive experience, but we'll see. :)

Only £80? I think I'll have to get one.

Bah, sold out.

Just wasted £6 on a screen protector for my edge plus that doesn't stick to the sides properly. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good one?

I've got a Skinomi and have been really pleased with it, it's fairly forgiving when installing it, so if you don't get it right first time you can have another dog. Youtube their channel before installing it.

Well, the screen door effect is pretty evident.......but DAMN it's immersive. I can see me having a LOT of fun with the Gear VR until the rift get a release.

Very happy for 80 notes.

After having a good play around I have to say the headset is very comfortable and lightweight.
It is very immersive and the video player with the cinema background is good.
Gunjack is very impressive and works really well, head movement tracks very well, but I did feel a little light headed after a while, I guess it will get better in time the more I use it. It is really immersive and a good showcase of what can be done with mobile VR.
It's a shame that the headset didn't come with built in head/earphones as this would really enhance the experience but overall the sound coming out from the mobile phone was decent enough.

The only other major gripe I have with it is that the resolution needs to be higher so that everything is sharper. Some demo videos look really bad and blurry despite adjusting the focus of the lenses.
Playing 1080p videos is much better but overall I found that the resolution needs to be higher as it's still not sharp enough for it to really blow my mind with the wow factor.

But for £80 I can't complain, it does set out what it wants to achieve and the experience is very immersive and bolds well for the future. Maybe once 4k display mobile phones are more commonly available then we will see the benefits of VR.

It certainly piqued my interest in the upcoming release of the Oculus Rift.
I think that we are maybe a small step away from it being a real game changer.

I've ended up with two Gear VRs due to impatience (got one through a mail forwarder before UK release was confirmed, then UK one got released while it was en route). I'm well impressed with it though considering it's all running off a phone.

Is there room to plug in headphones while the phone is docked in it? Seems like a bit of a shame if there's not as I'm sure it detracts from the experience a bit.

Suppose it would work with Bluetooth headphones but if the battery is already getting hammered as it is then that's not going to help

Unfortunately there in no room to use your own headphones when the phone is docked into the headset. You will have to use Bluetooth headphones. Shame that Samsung didn't include an option to use your own headphones into the gear vr.
In terms of the battery drain, you can charge the phone while it's in the headset as there is a micro usb port on the front of the headset. Only problem with that is that you will need a really, really long lead and you will have a cable dangling from the headset while it is charging from the mains which will restrict the free movement of the headset during some apps.

Eh?, i'm using headphones with it. It leaves the headphoce jack free when docked into the VR. I use a battery bank when needed, it keeps the cable management free enough for movement. Although I've very rarely needed it, I've had a good 3 hours on it and the phone still has 40. -50% left in it.

Sorry, I thought that the phone wouldn't have fitted into the dock with headphones in the jack. My bad. I will have to give it a proper try then.
Also another tip is that sitting on a chair that swivels really helps a lot.
