It'll keep Marshmallow but it erases all files and restores it to a clean state to how it should be.

It's when old and new files may get mixed up on OTA Software updates that can cause issues

So are you saying its best to do a factory reset after updating, as long as you havn't got too many things to put back.

Also how do I get rid of the brightness bar on the pull down notifications menu, I keep swiping it by accident and making my screen black, even with automatic ticked it blanks out the screen
Thanks

Maybe need a factory reset

Factory reset after every major update should be compulsory for this reason.

Well that sucks. I won't have access to a PC for the next few weeks. :(

Bit crap that in this day and age we can't just update and have it working without having to resort to wiping/reflashing. What on earth would the average, non-tech savvy person do in this situation? The phone is almost unusable unless I go into recovery and wipe the cache every few hours... Took me a few minutes trying to type this out!

Well technically it does work without a reset, it's just you may find a few performance issues, I've never had a phone unusable after an update.

Take a it to Samsung center? That's probably that non-savvy people do.

I updated mine via ODIN without factory reset and it's working just fine.

Well I just couldn't wait and I've gone and bricked my phone :(

It's stuck in download mode and the BTU won't write :(

I think it may be corrupt

Does anyone have a fast download link to the unbranded marshmallow BTU for the standard SIM free S6?

I'm sure it's not bricked, have a look over on XDA, I'm sure you get all the help you need.
