**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S7/Edge Thread ****

Pleasing news!

I got the feeling we would see 7.1.1 given the rate at whihc Smasung were adding features to the current beta.

I broke my M10 so managed to talk voda into sending me a free phone, with no 10 available I selected the S7 Edge... So far I am struggling to get on with it. Some things you may be able to help me with:

1) Make google photos the default photo app rather than samsung gallery (still no idea why we need two apps that do the same thing).
2) Sense on the htc, screen double taps to wake it up and turning the phone upside down to shut it up if it starts ringing, have samsung got anything like this?
3) moving the apps button in the app drawer, I want it in the middle not at the right is this possible?

There are more but these are my major frustrations so getting some of these right might prevent me from sending the thing back. I feel at this point that the 10 is vastly superior for what I was doing with it and am really struggling to like this thing.

Number 3 is easy, install another launcher. Nova gets my vote every time.

Yea I use some launchers on my m8 to make it work for my car setup. I shall give it a go! Surprised that this is not possible with the standard launcher though.

1)Settings -> Applications -> Default Applications -> Set as Default (I think this should work, I've not tried it as I don't have Google Photos.
2) Don't think there's a double tap to wake, but I'm sure I've seen an option to turn it over to mute it. Settings -> Advanced Features -> Easy Mute
3) Nova Launcher (as mentioned above)

HTH :)

The s7 mutes a call as standard when turned over and is normally automatically set to on I think, if not it's in settings under advanced settings

Thanks for this, I have turned that on now. Think I might get used to it if I stick with it, it has to be said though I prefer the more vanilla android HTC implementation. I have the edge and its a beautifully built phone, it just seems to be let down by bad software decisions and an abundance of bloat.

I tried setting photos as the default, it appears though that even if it is the default if you take a photo then click the little icon bottom right of the camera screen that it takes you to samsung gallery.

Perhaps ill move 3k photos to the samsung app rather than the google one that I have synced with google+

Hmmm I see what you mean - hadn't taken the camera app into consideration.

Does this not work? A bit of a 'ghetto' fix to a problem that shouldn't exist.

I remember seeing that floating thing previously but haven't used Google Photo's personally.

That floating thing does work but is just a bit too ghetto to be a viable solution. I think the only thing to do is transfer it all to Samsung gallery app as well and have it put photos into both apps but only use one for sync to cloud. It seems totally mad that you can't just remove the Samsung gallery as I would rather use the Google one which I feel is better from having played with them both.

Have been getting crazy battery drain on N beta 3. So went back to MM stock last week and it was still there.

Android system always highest.

Last night oculus app auto updated and battery back to be good again.

Having a few problems with the stock email app. After a recent update, every email received causes the phone to vibrate. The setting for email notifications is "Silent" and the "Vibrate" toggle is greyed out.

Anyone else got this or a solution? Don't really want to just turn off email notifications

Just got back from Cape Verde

Im quite distressed at how little in using my dslr kit which probably cost me 5k. I didn't even take it in holiday. This phone might make me ditch it all (except my tele lens).

It saves weight, risk of damage, having to do the chore of connecting to the pc before publishing and tbh, often gets better pics. Throw in water proofing and that cams are getting much better quickly, may make the switch this year.

The Samsung lens kit got so many comments on our holiday. This phone no basically covers wide to 70mm ish without a dslr for my hobby.
I may add well sell my 35mm sigma art, Canon 10-22, Canon 50mm and spare body.

I think the lens kit is one of the best things I've ever bought bang for buck

Got any pics from the holiday mate?

Contemplating the idea of getting a lens kit for my S7E and not taking my DSLR to Japan in March!

Yes I do, haven't looked through properly but will upload a few.
You know yourself hassle of changing lens on dslr, and all weight you have to lug round.
I don't regret for one second not taking mine.

Insurance for dslr, having to keep it safe, lugging it around, not waterproof. Only reason for me to take dslr now I feel is for wildlife. Could probably sell everything I have and get a 500mm prime and use phone for everything else as it's a hobby

Cheers, looking forward to the pics.

Agreed, as I'll be travelling a lot in Japan, I'm not too fond of carrying all the DSLR gear and accessories etc, so if the lens kit seems like the best alternative I may consider just going down that route and save myself a lot of hassle.

Is anyone else having issues with the Samsung Backup service? It's meant to take full phone backup every 24 hours with phone plugged in on WiFi. But I tried to do a manual backup and it just errors with generic "Server Connection Failed" message. I am on EE with an S7 Edge.

Tried restarting phone and wiping the Samsung Cloud cache. Still get the error. Bugging me as like knowing all my settings etc are backed up. I emailed Samsung and they asked me to send the log file to them but using the below instructions I just get an error "invalid MMI code" when I attempt to dial in that keypad combination.

1. Go to Dial

2. Press *#9900#

3. Select "Delete dumpstate/logcat"

4. Reproduce the error

5. Select "Run dumpstate/logcat"

6. Select "Copy to sdcard(include CP Ramdump)"

7. Connect the mobile with the USB cable to the PC

8. Using Windows Explorer, go to "/sdcard/log" folder

9. zip the all files and send us the archive.
