**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S7/Edge Thread ****

Oh the excitement and then the disappointment! Hopefully it won't be to long a wait. I've only had an S7 a couple of weeks after a few years of Moto phones. Got to say I'm liking the Samsung, a lot.

Work colleague got the update this morning. It bricked his phone. Took it back to Carphone Warehouse and they have confirmed a corrupt bootloader and it is no longer recognising the battery...

Guys, still having a rubbish time with Email Clients, Outlook, and stock app have their own problems i dont like, is there anything else i can try, i need push to work with gmail and icloud?

Nougat. No need for custom ROMs these days on phones like this :p

It only leads to problems, like contactless payments breaking, banking apps breaking...

Totally agree. I used to Custom Rom/Root phones about 5+ years ago (Thinking HTC Desire/Samsung S2 etc) but with the modern ones and with the extra customisation (Samsung Theme Store for example) it just isn't worth it at all.
I rooted my S6 Edge+ in an attempt to install Pixel Launcher and although I accomplished that it lead to no end of other issues - most noticeably as you said Android Pay, fingerprint issues and various password managers not functioning, I swiftly unrooted it.

Is this a usual thing for Samsung to be nearly last with an update? Nearly all others are now over on Nougat.

I wouldn't say Samsung are usually last but my goodness they are slow. I've had every Samsung flagship since the S2 and they really do drag their heals - on Pixel XL now and the almost instant updates are great :D

On the flip side however, I have had devices (I'm looking at you Sony and LG) that have prematurely rushed out updates in the past and then simple apps such as BBC iplayer don't function anymore until a fix has been implemented so that is a real pain too.

My S7 arrived. I bought the Spiegen case Jazzy recommended (is a screen protector necessary?) and have installed my core apps etc. I was looking at the themes, but the choice is bewildering. Is there a list of favorite user themes anywhere? Or perhaps some you guys can recommend?

I don't use a screen protector as it affects the quality of the screen, I've not had any issues with the screen being without one either, screen still looks good as new with no scratches, always keep in pocket separate from coins/keys etc.

I'm using the material dark theme and nova launcher.

think it's time to go custom ROM on my S7..

what are people running ?

I was tempted by the Pixel Rom but then I just ended up installing Nova and theming the whole thing for a stock experience.

As said already, I think the S7 is one of the first Samsung phones which is running just fine on stock without the need to modify anything via rooting :).

Now that I have had Nougat beta on for quite some time, I figured I'd try a screen on time run as a contrast to my usual usage with mostly wifi being used. Most of the screen on periods were watching media.

GSam average since S7 edge ownership:

Obviously this is with WiFi used, 4G strength at home is -97dBm.

So realistically, a full day with nearly 4 hours SoT for my usage habits, or some 8 hours less battery life with 7 hours SoT where mostly media is consumed.

I think that's pretty good going. I have not been able to replicate that kind of result when Marshmallow was installed.

Screen on time shouldn't be a factor in judging battery life of course, it's more down to wireless radio strength, application sync and actual usage as well as the network you are on. I am on Three, and I think they have weaker reception than other networks, so the mobile radio has to work harder. I'll consider EE later this year as they are proposing 95% coverage for 4G in the UK by year end.

I'm not getting anything like that kind of result. 3 hours SOT, 15 hours standby, give or take. Something's amiss.

So I'm making the switch from an iPhone 6S to an S7 Edge, went into a Samsung shop over the weekend and completely fell in love with the thing. So doing some digging I managed to get a phone only deal which means it's a minimal cost to make a change.

What's been the thoughts on the S7 Edge? Have I made the right choice :)

I wouldn't choose the Edge again. The Edge panels offer nothing for me, but the amount of times it has registered a false touch when I'm holding the phone in landscape orientation makes me want to throw it.

Agreed. It's a lovely phone and very powerful with a great display but the edges just wound me up in the end. Moved to Pixel XL and don't regret it for a second, the screen is actually better I think.
If only Samsung had released a 5.5 inch flat version...

I didn't get the feeling it would be an issue when playing around in the shop, I'll just have to be careful. I've gone for a 32gb model, am I correct in saying I can chuck in a 200gb memory card and I'm ok or is it the combined memory a maximum of 200gb?

Sorry for the silly questions, completely new to Android.
