**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

So couple days in and beta 4 seems rather good. Amazon Prime Video won't play stuff though, decryption failure. Seems others have the same issue too so Samsung needs to fix this before final.

Otherwise, a solid beta.

I did a few gifs showing the cool animations. the icon stacking is part of Oreo anyway, but the others are nice and new to non Pixel devices I guess thanks to Substratum!

Camera is pretty amazing for a phone on the s8 if you ask me. Plenty good enough for casual snaps.

If I needed something better I'd have a dedicated digital camera.

How have you got small notification icons instead of the white notification bars, which usually fill the middle of the lockscreen?
 
Ah that's in Settings, Lock Screen and Security, then tap Notifications to see the settings on how to handle those.

You can then turn on icons only or the default white bars. With Samsung you can now make the bars transparent as well so they look much nicer than before.

Thought it was my phone playing up with Prime vids! But don't watch much prime on my phone anyway. Sky Go still works which is a miracle as it fails with the least provocative :rolleyes: But as you say it's coming along nicely.

I'm not using substratum. Do you still have to disable or unistall before updating the OS?
 
You do yes, but only for SystemUI based overlays. App overlays can remain, although it's always best to be cautious anyway.
 
Anyone else keep getting overlays popping up saying connecting to cellular data can cost blah blah constantly on the latest beta? Dozen times a day.
 
Turn off the dynamic WiFi switching in WiFi settings. It uses mobile data if Android 8 thinks your WiFi isn't very fast or stable.

The notification bubble is new in beta 4, apparently global users like seeing when it switched over so they can manage their data, hence why it was out in.

Ahh, that'd make sense. It seems to be when I'm on the tail end of a WiFi range before the phone switches over to another AP.

Just installed the beta. This notification is doing my head in. Toggled the setting on and off but still it persists.
 
For some reason skynews.com images aren't loading. Are there any setting I might of accidently pressed to cause this? Every other site works fine.
 
Anyone have any experience buying from foreign Amazon sites? I was all set to buy a OnePlus 5T for £500 but you can get the the S8+ for £525 from Amazon Germany. My concerns with that is the returns policy as well as the fact the S9 will be announced early next year.
