The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Dashik, brilliant stuff. I look forward to hearing about the end result.

V and I went on VATSIM last night. We flew from EGPF (Glasgow) to EGKK (Gatwick).

I've always had 'the fear' about flying into London hubs. But tonight was different. EKGG_TWR was online and we'd only have to establish ourselves on the localizer.

We were in our iFly 737s. I was in TAP Portugal livery, leased out to and flying as India's 'Go Air'. V was flying as Air Berlin.

'The fear' was being asked to be put into a hold. So with this in mind and no radar to mention, we both programmed the holing pattern into the intuitive FMC. We stepped through the route and surprisingly, the holding pattern looked spot on.

So as I approached 'holly' waypoint, ready for the hold, Gatwick 'Director' came online and talked faster than any other controller I've heard. He asked me to leave 'holly' on a heading of 050. After all this, my 'app' button wasn't working when I was on the ILS, which means I've done something wrong.

Runway 26R was in use. I landed okay manually, and will need to revisit this exercise as I had to use the ILS on 26L and 'sidestep' to 26R?

When 'Director' came online, I wated to shoot V with a Nerf gun, but then thanked him for the challenge. TWR and GRD were also on and I taxied up to gate 145. Lots learnt this evening. Thanks V. :D

Haha don’t thank me mate, I was sweating buckets too ;) .Actually I didn’t find that too bad. My only issue as Blue mentioned was, these guys talk really quickly and I struggled to pick up a lot of the instructions and the landing on rwy 26R confused me.

First of all, I was programmed to land 26L but was told to land 26R. Didn’t know Gatwick used 26R as there is no ILS for 26R? (Chaders, you can explain better please). Approach directed me in but left me at 4000ft. I thought he would drop me down to 2500ft to catch the g/s and line me up. I was still 90 deg’s right of the rwy. So I did one more left turn and lined up perfectly, caught the LOC for 27L but then I “side stepped” and landed manually on 26R. It wasn’t too bad. I did press my G on the keyboard by mistake so I was close to doing a belly flop but quickly got the landing gear out and went safely down.

Once parked up I did ask “Ground” what the proper procedure is to land on 26R he said “you should line yourself up on 27L and then the director should vector you in to land on 26R. So not sure why we didn’t do that last night?

A very good night and a lot learnt flying into a busy airport. Chaders when we are all on again, can we go through the hold procedure and adding it to the FMC please?

Blue, a great night indeed, look forward to the next one.

Did a great flight today in the NGX and for the first time I've got away without any DRAG REQUIRED notifications in the FMC. It proves how accurate this baby really is. Entering descent forecast winds for FL90, FL180, and FL300 as well as ISA deviations really helps with proper controlled descents. Activesky weather logs for each waypoint are essential!

At Gatwick 08L/26R is only used when work is being done on 08R/26L. The only approaches to the secondary runway are RNP (RNAV) ones but these aren't often used. The usual procedure is to fly the ILS for 26L until visual then side step onto 26R. This is a visual manoeuvre so AP out and speed off ( or AT disc) and just transfer onto the other runway.

Well Ive got the main part of my reinstall done, All thats left is to sort some keybindings with EZdok etc, and tweak a few settings then last thing is to install either squawkbox or FSinn. Trying to remember which of the two is better with Win7 64, FSX and PMDG 737 and Vatsim.....

I'll add airports as I need them.

Doing VHHX - EGLL, was an eventful departure - not only was RWY 31 in use (very rarely do winds permit it) but I was also over the perf. weight limit for the departure :P

cheers, thanks for that mate.

Wow that was an interesting landing.

Luke what scenery is that please? Looks lovely.

I had a great night on Friday. I flew with my VA. It was a Memphis Ramp Event, flying to Miami. ATC all the way down . I was sh..... myself :p over 70 planes coming into Miami. I was put into two holds around Miami waiting for my slot to land. Got the all clear and landed perfectly. great night indeed.

So Blue/Chaders onwards and upwards from here guys :D;)

I think that is the Fly Tampa Kai Tak and HK, it looks unbelievable there. My wallet is taking a battering for this. That is a brilliant screenshot Luke, it actually looks better than real life :).

Apparently Kai Tak isn't included in the PMDG FMCs, does anyone know how to do it?

As Deko guessed, it's Fly Tampa's Hong Kong. Thanks. :D

To add it to PMDG nav-data you need to download this.

Tell me about the holds. Did you put your practice last Thursday to good use? :D

The route we used, for some reason it already added the hold into my FMC  so I didn't have to do anything, plus ATC did everything for me.

Saying that, I would like to practise what we did the other night again.

I was looking at the Fly Tampa website, they do some very good airports, very detailed. I still think Orbex is better though.

Talking about scenery, I bought the VFR airfields Vol 1, 2 ,3 and Gatwick Extreme(I worked out cheaper getting 4) I’m not that impressed to be honest. Gatwick Extreme is very good, happy with that but I thought the other airports will be a lot better. I don’t even see the gate/parking numbers on the tarmac?? Also in the configuration panel, I have selected all the options i.e. “install static aircraft” and for some reason I don’t have any aircraft at these airports and yes in my fsx options(aircraft) I have chosen aircraft too.

I’m around most of the week,

Mon – After 8.30
Tuesday – Yes
Wednesday – After 9
Thursday – most of the day, at home.
Friday – Yes
Weekend – as always, on and off!

I hope we can get some more people on Vatsim and come join myself , Blue and Chaders!
