The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Lovely video! I must get that addon. Looks class. What is the scenery? I think you might have a similar microstutter problem to me or maybe its just the video?

It's just the video encoding from Sony Vegas HD for some reason, it also lost the sound part way through.

Scenery is YSCH Coffs Harbour and aircraft is Carenado PA34.

Got FSX and installed yesterday. So far so good, though I crashed near the end of a mission, after some 40 mins, and got annoyed :D

Still trying to work out how in install Blue Sky Scenery packages. No matter what I do when I go to import them nothing happens. I did download one of the NL2000 scenery packages and installed that no problem but I cannot get any BSS installed.

ElliorR, I bet you running FSX on Win 7, there is a small bug/problem when adding manual scenery in the library. You need to enter the correct directory (so that it show the scenery & texture folder) then clicking OK will do nothing but just click anywhere on centre window in a blank space (ie underneath the directory list perhaps). That should do the trick.

And now for some more screenies:

I hope you enjoyed the view, thanks for stopping by.

Those UHDT planes are just gorgeous, what kind of fps hit do you take flying them? After tweaking my .cfg/settings I've somehow bollocksed my installation and am trying to claw my way back to smooth and sharp flying (I seem to get one or the other but never both over photoreal scenery)

Those are awesome Soya. Lovely paint on the 757. Do you typically fly full flights or just mess around to set up for nice screenshots?

Thanks, I tend to mostly do short flights nowadays (UK, Holland, Germany), especially if I want to do some screen shots. I usually pick a settings/area, record a short flight, then play it back with different view points and see if anything is screen shot worthy.

The beauty about these UHDTs that you take *NO* frame rate hit at all. You are increasing the texture detail and quality not increasing the detail of the model, which would indeed require more CPU power, but higher detail texture is simply down to your GFX card and unless you have a pretty old card, these UHDTs are easily handles by most systems. PS they do require more system resources, especially memory so if you have less then 4GB of RAM then it may give you some OOM errors.

Cheers Soya that worked a treat.

Glad to hear it.

Just a quickie, while battling to eliminate "the blurries" I eventually tried out the FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION= cfg edit, believing it to now be defunct but in desperation I gave it a go. Turns out raising this value over the default .33 made a dramatic difference to the entire feel of the sim. It smoothed out the flight as well as raising my fps to a constant 24fps (what I have it locked at), nearly eliminating the scenery stutter I had experienced, and clearing up my scenery to no end! I currently have it at .66 but am still tweaking it to find the best balance as this value can drop fps in airports/heavy autogen areas and then the blurries come back.

For anyone trying to smooth out their flight or eliminate blurries, I definately recommend at least playing with this value. Just add FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33 (change value to suit) under the [Main} heading in your fsx.cfg file and see how it goes. Very happy :)

Ringo: That does look very nice, but IMO some of the recent high end releases match those VC shots, take Captain Sim's 707 for instance, their VC is pretty stunning too.

Devrij: Haven't touched that variable in a while, will have another play with it, thanks.

chris: If are looking at FSX then CPU power is your main friend, the higher the Ghz, the better FSX will run.

And now for some more screen shots,

Allow me to share my latest works with you folks, a series of random screen shots with some slight editing work done on them. Normally I prefer to keep my screen shots unedited, as I have done so in the past, but lately I have enjoyed dabbling in a bit of light editing, so let me share with you some of the fruits of my labour.

All the below shots have been mildly edited (apart from 1, see if you can spot it), mostly very subtle editing, some not so subtle. If you wish, you can view the unedited versions of all the shots right here.

Enjoy the view:

Beautiful as always Soya, keeps me addicted seeing what else can be achieved.

With regards to that tweak (for those who haven't used it before), it's basically the fraction of cpu time devoted to loading textures. Obviously too high a value draws valuable cycles away from things like autogen and will worsen the overall experience and lower framerates, but counter-intuitively (as I had assumed lack of cpu cycles was my issue given my cpu's constant maxed out state) I found raising the value from its default gave a dramatically smoother feel and clearer textures providing I was able to hit the set locked framerate. I did get a higher and more consistent fps after raising the value a bit, oddly, but raising it too far did muddle things up.

I'm feeling the need for a new AP, maybe some new scenery. I'm going to hold out for the CS sale at xmas, but I would love a decent passenger jet to do some medium distance hops around europe if anyone has any recommendations?

I don't know what an FMC is, but yes. Half the fun for me is learning how things actually work in real life so the closer to real life it is the better (even if it means hours of fiddling to figure it out :p)
