The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I'm using 310.90 and not having any issues.

Try this link too and see if it can help.

Thanks for the link. Already had a look at that too :)

Well, I have upgraded to 310.90 and it seems to be ok so far. With one expection. Does anyone else get the error with the PMDG aircraft that after you exit a flight the fsx page is garbled and on the bottom right of the screen?

I have seen some others complain about it on forums, but I have yet to find a solution, if there is one.

Also, and I know this is an old question that has been asked before, so I apologies in advance, but how do you guys set up your planes for cold and dark?

I tried the method described by some, took the Cessna to the gate at Heathrow and turned off the key and battery switches. The problem is, when I load my 737 over that, the plane is on, with engines running, and is about half a plane length too far forward. Please help the noob :)

On the plus side, I did manage the first tutorial flight from PMDG for my 737, which went ok, with a few glitches on my part. Mainly it showed how much I have to learn. It was brilliant though watching the plane fly it own course and come down for a perfect autolanding. :)

Oh, and as always, the pictures look excellent.

Thanks.

Thanks Blue, will try the config for PMDG panels next time I log in. Not sure it will fix the position issue though, but I can live with that.

Yeah, I have been meaning to buy the plane for a while now, and after watching loads of videos in YouTube, I decided it was time.

I admit though, that for someone who hasn't done much flying, the PMDG plane is quite a handful. Still, I prefer airliners and realism, so it is a good fit. Just got to keep practicing I suppose.

Of course, reading this thread everyday has certainly push me along too, so it is a big thanks to all that have contributed here. :)

Shahpor, on the NGX there is an option in the FMC to load up the panel state in cold and dark. You can change lots of settings in the FMC like weight, fuel loads as well as panel configuration etc. Worth a look if you hadn't spotted it already.

I took my video camera with me for the flight we did on Saturday. In the line up you have Chadders departing first, followed by Vuvuzela, toString and then me from Stornoway.

I make no apologies for my take-off as I was holding the camcorder at the time. :D

I wish you cut away from me sooner, as I forgot to raise the gear for about 5 minutes :o

I think if you save your default flight when cold and dark then you'll start that way the next time you run FSX. Certainly worked when I used this technique for a friend and his Cessna 337.

Hi guys, I really want to get into flight sims (FSX) but im unsure if my pc will be able to handle it, any advice on my build below?

FSX loves CPU speed...the more mghz the better so get a processor that you can easily clock to at least 4.0Ghz or above (3570k will do nicely)

I personally have nothing against AMD GPU's but FSX does...it always seems to run better on an nvidia graphics card...anything from a GTX560 upwards will be more than enough gpu grunt for fsx

and get yourself a half decent joystick and throttle set, something like a Saitek X52 Pro

Thanks mate, I have been getting advice in another thread and someone said I can easy get over 4.0ghz from my cpu and also the gpu to 1275mhz.

Do you think this would be ok?

Yeah that CPU with a decent overclock will serve you well for FSX...I would definitely consider an Nvidia GPU though.

GPU speed is less important to FSX (its almost a 7 year old 3D engine now remember) so it doesnt actually require that much power from a graphics card to render the simulation

Even if you could afford to put 2 GTX 680's in SLI in your rig it would not make FSX run any faster...it is HEAVILY cpu reliant, even with current high-end hardware you would run out of CPU power before FSX would bring any mid-range gfx card to its knees

The general consensus is that the nvidia drivers have better compatibility with FSX over AMD's catalyst drivers, the various FSX forums are full of such evidence.

I understand that from a general gaming system building point of view that current AMD cards do offer better price/performance at the moment..but if your serious about wanting to spend time with FSX getting an Nvidia gpu will save you headaches down the road

Based on my own experience of FSX with my old AMD Radeon 5870 and the countless forum threads regarding AMD/FSX issues...I highly recommend it.

If you want new kit I would look at the GTX660Ti.

If you don't mind second hand (and saving a few quid) there are plenty GTX 570's / 580's available on a well known auction site going for very reasonable sums these days...many still have manufacturers warranties remaining and would be plenty GPU grunt for FSX aswell as current games

Ok thanks, I might just get it to see if I like it before I start spening cash on hardware

Always a good idea; FSX is not a "game" its a piece of simulation software...peoples expectations of it can often be wrong.

Even at its most basic level it can be very involving and the learning curve for aviation novices is steep (I'm speaking from experience here) but the rewards are very worth it

It's not Tom Clany's Hawx with airliners :D
