The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

For those that have bought planes and need tutorials (737 NG, ATR-72, Avro 146), those that are new or want to start on VATSIM, those that want to learn VOR/NDB approaches or those that are happy to take the Cessna out for a spin, post away and we'll get things organised.

I need to get used to the navigation system on FSX. In FS2004 it was much more click and be done, these default garmin units in FSX seem quite a bit different.

Have any of you seen the 777 Wordliner [1] or 787 [2] for X-plane? Both very nice Models.

I am looking forward to JustFlights Tristar [3] though..

For starters, has anyone got a list of recommended tools/plugins/scenery/AI etc? Both free and payware. No point buying decent aircraft until I'm able to make reasonable use out of them ;).

Need to do dig through both FSX files I've previously accumulated and boxed editions, and install stuff.

Thanks!

There are lots of versions of this uiautomationcore.dll and as far as i know you need a certain version number. 6.0.5840.16386 is the version to try.

Apparently 6.0.6001.18000 is also OK and this is the one I have and used previously.

Looks like I have 6.0.5840.16386 - Mirrored at https://www.strongspace.com/reedy/public/UIAutomationCore 6.0.5840.16386.zip

+1 please.

This thread has renewed my interesting in flight sims, and as such, I reinstall my copy of FSX last night.

It is however quite bare, since I never got into simming that much in the past. So I would appreciate some pointers on how to make mine look and feel as nice as some of yours do :)

I am also about to buy my first plane, the PMDG 737NGX. I have read the PMDG intro and two tutorial documents and it has got me all excited. :)

I am a bit nervous about the time and effort it is going to take to learn how to fly this amazing plane, but I am hoping I can at least get the basics sorted.

Thanks chaps.

At the weekend I tried to re-learn how to start the 737pmdg up from cold and dark and programmed in a really simple flight plan. Spent a good 10-15mins on it. I then went to take off from London City airport, and apparently the runway was too short and my wheels crashed into a fence at the end :p

It is a lot to learn but very rewarding. Just be patient and break it down into sections at a time. E.g. preparing the cockpit for a flight, programming the FMC and engine startup.

Scenery - ORBX
Effects - Rex
GA Aircraft - Real Air
Tubeliners - PMDG

Airports - UK2000
VFR Scenery - GenX

You could do it in a -600 or -700, but would need to lighten your load and use a different flap setting. Landing may be tricky as the A318 has some reprogramming to have some clever flaps/slats/spoiler setting to slow down on the steep approach.

Check out avsim.com for lots of freeware bits for FSX. Unfortunately with the quality of some FSX paywhere today, it sets high bar.

Put your parking brakes on, then spool the engines up to max (go to ~40% and wait for stabilisation first). Then let the breaks go. You've got more runway length with the engines running at full throttle, not waiting for them to spool up.

Some aircraft types seem to do this on any runways...

Why does

Challenge accepted.

come to mind?

I do think in the screenshots other people post it looks a lot better than mine. Grass is always greener on the other side?

Yeah, stock 737-800 with 50% fuel in each tank does it easily.. :D

Which reminds me. BAs all business A318 LCY -> JFK via SNN (JFK -> LCY is direct). Twice daily. Need to give that a try in FSX

Thanks for the info.

I did buy the PMDG 737 yesterday, but unfortunately, my FSX decided it didn't want to play ball and CTD with an nvd3dum.dll error. So it looks like I am rebuilding my pc today :(

Hopefully will have it working later today and can perhaps try the tutorial flight that comes in with the documentation.

I didn't realise that how much they actually were.

Take the PMDG MD-11 for example, $79.99 for FSX version. That is £50.45 roughly.

FSX gold costs £17.87 at the rainforest.

$69.99 for 737NGX (+ $24.99 for the extra versions)

I know they've put a lot of time into them, and they're really good.

I guess you get what you pay for, right? :)

You do get what you pay for. As for the NGX, if you're not fussed by wear and tear and hydrolic fluid simulation then the cheaper ifly is more than enough to keep you happy.

I'll be online in a bit.

Thanks for the link, but already seen it, and it didn't help.

I rebuilt my pc yesterday and after the usual updates, it did it again!

So I rolled back my Nvidia drivers to 296.10 and it at least loads the plane now. The only problem I have now is that after ending the flight, it either just CTD's or the page is all messed up and cannot be clicked on.

Is there a driver version people recommend? I am tempted to try updating to the latest 310.90, and if it doesn't work then just rolling back again.

FSX used to work, so I am not exactly sure why this is happening now, but it is damn frustrating :(

I'm using 310.90 and not having any issues.

Try this link too and see if it can help.

I took my video camera with me for the flight we did on Saturday. In the line up you have Chadders departing first, followed by Vuvuzela, toString and then me from Stornoway.

I make no apologies for my take-off as I was holding the camcorder at the time. :D

And some images from Tuesday..
