The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Looks like your new PC is chewing up FSX very nicely, looking good there.

As for the wide view variable, I always have it set to False even when using 1920x1080 (16:9) and now using 2560x1600 (16:10). I never noticed a performance hit but I never used it as I just don't like the view it gives. It just does not look right to me, I tend to run FSX mostly with external views and wideaspect is bad. All my screen shots now and in the past were taken with it off.

IMO leave it to false.

Just thought I'd let everyone know about this.

Dear Customer,

We thought you'd like to be the first to know that we've now slashed the price of the Orbx FTX Australia SP3 DVD by 50%! Orbx have now announced the soon to be released SP4 update for their Australian terrain product and it's time to clear out current stock.

The current AU SP3 DVD will be 100% upgradable to the latest SP4 changes by way of an update that will be made available from the http://fullterrain.com website, so there is absolutely no better time to get the whole of Australia at this ludicrously low price.

This offer is only available while stocks last.

To purchase your copy of this Orbx flagship product at this amazing price simply visit the following product page only at The FlightSim Store:

Bit of an update on my recent tweakings. I have discovered that my performance is suddenly brilliant with two changes from before:

1) Don't use ENBSeries mod - this seems to make my FPS jump up and down haphazardly

2) Dont use WideViewAspect=True (false makes all the difference).

So now after all the annoyance I can fly in mad storms with REX weather engine in the FPS killing 747 and still get a constant 30FPS. I might start enjoying this hobby again!

Interesting about the ENBSeries mod. I quite like the effect but may test it without. Yeah, I've also found that running with WideViewAspect=False make a lot of difference, takes a bit to time adjusting to the different zoom level but quite a jump in performance. Also removed the bufferpools tweak and that too helped.

Does anybody use the Affinity Mask tweaks at all? Particularly those with i7's and hyperthreading?

I have used Bufferpools and Affinity mask using bojotes online fsx.cfg generator.

The bufferpools sets a threshold bypass value though and not the 0 value that is often spoken of. I might try tweaking w/out BP and AM and see what happens.

Yeah, that 737 looks very impressive. Love the head up display too.

Just thought I'd upload a few old screen captures. Not had much time over the last few weeks with FSX but have quite a few new images to shift through.

Unedited but resized.

I am so excited about the 737NGX it's actually quite sad! lol

Promising thing about Flight is, the first set of screenies look very similar to FSX, but according to the little bit of bumpf on the Flight site itself, mentions thats a great thing as it is still in very early and basic stages of development..

Just hope it works well on present hardware. Spent enough on Hardware trying to get FSX to run as it should.

I hope it leaves room for growth though. Would be disappointing if they didn't take it further and keep us buying ridiculous CPUs we don't need for anything else.

Oh yeah, got to have a valid excuse for spending silly money on parts...

Although other half has absolutely no idea how much the parts have cost, built last PC in 45mins whilst she was out at the gym.

Took a bit longer with current build, 1 whole hour including a good old tidy of the cables lol

Just don't fancy another 5-6 years constantly fannying around with a .cfg looking for the ultimate tweak. Be nice to have a sim you can just fly.

Morning all, I need some advice! I am looking to upgrade my system purely for FSX purposes. I had been waiting for the Overclocked Sandy Bridge processors to be released, but was disappointed to learn that only 4 mb of memory would be available, due to stability problems on the i7 2600k @ 4.6mhz. I spoke to the experts here who were very helpful, but suggested an i7 950 overclocked @ 4mhz but with 12mb of memory. Is 4mb of memory enough especially with a number of add on programs ? Any thoughts or advice would be welcome. Thanks. Aaron

I have a friend who has just purchased such a system with 8GB from these here parts, 2600K @ 4.6Ghz on an Asus MB with 2x4GB sticks. I saw it last Sunday.

If you are buying from OcUK, just give them a ring and ask for 8GB. Overclocking to 4.6GHz shouldn't be too much of a problem, particularly with 2x4GB, having 4x2GB may not be possible due to the memory controller (from what I hear with second gen i7 processors is better than the first gen processors).

Remember FSX is a 32 bit application, so itself can't utilise more than this but will allow background windows tasks to use it. You should be able to overclock to at least 4.5GHz fair easily yourself too with adequate cooling.

On a side note, I've noticed a fairly significant improvement in flight smoothness since going from 3.8GHz to 4.4GHz with HT disabled so a 2500/2600K should be fantastic. :)

I have again spoken to the technical team here who have advised that anything over 4 gig memory on a Sandy bridge system is at the moment problematic due to BIOS issues? They have helpfully suggested that I give them a couple of weeks until BIOS revisions are available, at which point 8 gig should not be a problem. Looks like I will have to be even more patient !!
It goes against the grain to go with an older I7 chip, especially when there is very little price difference, surely the wait for the more modern chip will be worthwhile?

Hi,

Need some info please. For FSX, would I be better off buying a single GTX580 or the 'deal of the century' GTX480 in SLI? Lastly, would the GTX480 SLI fit in the TITAN SPINOSAUR?

Cheers
