The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

It was good be back flying.

We flew the Aerosoft Airbus from Dublin (EIDW) to Stansted (EGSS) on Vatsim.

Dublin Tower was online and the airport was busy. V got blocked in by a T7 at the terminal.

After takeoff we were transferred to Shannon Controller, routed to Liffy and then left for Unicom shortly after reaching the cruise altitude.

We flew over Liverpool, down past Birmingham for a ASKEY4F arrival for runway 22. Stansted Tower was online.

My landing was good, but I ended up coming to a full stop on the runway and couldn't get moving again, so I disconnected.

Very enjoyable stuff.

Next time, possibly Thursday will be VFR in America.

Does anyone know of a very good Cessna 152 for FSX? Reason is that I've booked my first introductory flying lesson up at Cumbernauld and it will be in a 152, so ideally I would like to get familiar with the plane beforehand, even though it won't mean much. I've been flying sims for a good 10 years now and it's time to start going towards my PPL, I can't think of a better thing to spend my student loan on :)

I've got the A2A 172 which is about on par with PMDG, and I guess it will be very similar to the 152 but it would be nice to see what's different. I'm going to be doing 1000 circuits from Cumbernauld over the next week :).

That's excellent Blue, cheers. I will make a post afterwards about how I get on, I'm buzzing to get up in the air.

Cant go wrong with Carenado. They do a great 152.

I also had a few flights in the 152 got another in a month so

After much deliberation I've decided to come back to FSX for the time being.

I have no doubt the P3Dv2 has a bright future but I just cant compromise with it at the moment - performance is fantastic and blows FSX out the water but the back compatibility issues are killing it for me at the moment, particularly with scenery.

I've got an extensive library of scenery products that I love flying over and airports that I frequently used in FSX but cant due to P3Dv2 compatibility issues, this has caused me to avoid simming for the most part the last couple of months with P3Dv2 because the areas I wanted to fly in weren't up to par.

I was over at a mates house last night who has just upgraded his old i5-870 rig to an i5 4670k with a 4.4Ghz overclock and GTX770 - we played around with FSX and got really good results with minimal tweaking.
With this in mind I've just ordered an i5-4670K bundle from OCUK for myself - hoping that this paired with my GTX 780 will give me a better experience than I used to get running FSX on my i7-950 and GTX 580.

I've also been looking through Froogle Pete's youtube videos and have decided to give X-Plane 10 a try too.

Welcome back!

I'm longing to move over to 64 bit XP10.

I really think it's the future.

By the time P3D reaches that 64 bit landmark, we'd all have to re-buy all our fleet anyway.

I haven't yet moved across, because I'm in a comfortable place with FSX. When I say comfortable, I mean 'putting up with it'

Cool, got it. Thought an i7 was a true quad core, activating hyper threading gives it 8, but I couldn't get my OC stable with hyper threading on. The i5 is only dual core?

I've not changed and PC parts in a fair few years now, my i7 is old! The GTX480 is showing its age a little too sadly :( The whole saving for a house deposit thing can get depressing after a while, limits you to how much you can spend on toys.

Soooo yesterday I managed my first full flight with the Dash-8 following the tutorial-2 from CYZD – KEWR. I take it all flight crew get free dental treatment when flying on this? as I find it hard to believe that anybody would have any teeth left it's so bumpy!
took a long time to follow the set up but once it's learned it'll get quicker. One litte problem..apart from landing at the wrong airport was that the FMS decided about a 3rd of the way onto the flight to loose all of the flight plan. The route was still showing on the MFD although the destination appeared to be missing hence me landing at the wrong airport....when I say land passengers may have had a few bruises!
anybody else had this problem with the FMS or is it more likely I did something else wrong?

The look on the crews faces may have something to do with my flying!

FSX and I are getting along VERY well after my system upgrade and reinstall....

FTX Scotland, REX Sky and Cloud (2048), ActiveSky Next and RealAir Duke v2 with a bit of ENB :D

Quick jaunt from Edinburgh up to Inverness for addon stability testing - Silky smooth and I don't think my frames dropped below 40 at any time during the flight

I'd really be interested to know how much of a difference the upgrade makes. I'm still running on the old i5 750, OC'd to around 3.9Ghz. In the past I've been happy to fly GA and even with the more detailed payware GA stuff my system has generally managed 30fps as long as I don't go silly with weather and scenery. However, thought I'd dip my toe into more complex aircraft and started off the the Majestic Dash. Needless to say frame rates are dropping to the point where the aircraft movement becomes "jerky". Whilst I can offset this a little by reducing the other sliders it may be the time (and excuse) to upgrade.
